I am compiling a list of examples for the SAT essay, and although I have many respectable examples (French Revolution, XYZ affair, A clockwork Orange, Corrupt Bargain, Enron Scandal, Galileo, invention of the printing press, and a few others.) I can not seem to apply any of them when confronted with an essay topic. As I glanced over the essay archetypes thread I came to the shocking realization that I couldn't find any examples to support the questions. I would be extremely grateful if someone would be willing to look at a few of these essay topics and give me some examples because I really can't think of any. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/764514-sat-essay-prompt-archetypes.html

i actually have the same problem
when i read the quote and the task, i blank out for ~5 mins =

You’re probably trying too hard to make an essay fit your stock examples. While it can be a good strategy to have a stable of possible examples you can drag out when appropriate, it’s also extremely limiting if you’re too rigid about it. Some of the worst essays I’ve read have worked really hard to make their stock examples fit a prompt. If you read a prompt and discover your “prepared” topics don’t fit, move on! Remember, you can always make something up…just imagine a “friend” in a situation that fits. Just don’t freeze up and write some gibberish because you get flustered when your stock examples don’t work. Go into test day assuming you’re going to need to think of at least one example on the spot…that way you won’t be freaked out when you really do have to think of something off the top of your head! Just relax. You’ll be fine.

One more thing its not really important to pick some examples that resembles a real life situation. I made up 2 Stupid Fantasy example ( about me as A king of lich(I play dota ) empire ). i wrote incomplete essay and got a 8 ( 1.5 page length )

Can I just get a few examples of people following the crowd, I can’t seem to think of any

im not sure but say something about fashion
if people wouldnt follow the the crowd, there wouldnt be fashion
ie. skinny jeans are now in style and everyone wears them
few years ago bell-bottoms/flares were pretty common, but you dont see many people wearing them today, do you? and if they do, they stand out and some people actually hold grudges against them or s/t…

also, look at JFK and his wife
when he became the president, everyone wanted to be like him. once the word got out that he can read like 1k words/min, people took up the hobby/practice of speed-reading and competed with each other who can read faster, etc.
as for his wife Jacqueline, she had a thing for style, so everyone copied her clothes designs/hair styles, etc.

however, if you wanna disagree with the quote use Rosa Parks as an example…i guess
she didnt wanna obey the common rules of the day, thats why she refused to give up a seat on the bus for a white passenger.
well, for disagreeing with the quote, you can use any rebellion in history for that matter…any revolutionary rebellion was led by an individual, or a few individuals, anyway.

Sports are, to me, the EASIEST to write by far. You can apply a variety of topics such as working hard, being under pressure (gasp! the essay prompt for the January 2010 SAT), etc. In the 10 or so essays that I’ve written so far (Scores 10-12), only one has not included a sports example from my own experiences or professional.

Recommendation: Sports
