I goofed bad. UPenn Financial aid

Fuzzy…the students are supposed to keep, track of what they submit…and make sure it’s done in a timely fashion. It is not the college’s responsibility to remind students to make the required financial aid submissions. Some schools do…but really…it’s the STUDENT’S job to make sure this gets done…on time.

@thumper1 The other kid who did turn everything in on time received his package late as well.

Thanks for all the help everyone

BTPoker, yes, schools make mistakes too. However, when it’s the school’s mistake, there is good reason, moral reason for the school to make some concessions to YOU, about deadlines and not hold you to certain rules and make exceptions. When YOU make the mistake, there is no reason for the school to do so. You don’t do as asked, you don’t get what you the school offers on that contingency. There are schools where not getting everything in by a deadline excludes you from certain scholarships or aid altogether. Yes, the school could make exception, but some just won’t or don’t for some students if it’s the student’s fault and no grounds to appeal when indeed it is.

UPenn will be letting you know on Monday whether you are accepted or not. Hopefully, they will give you a break if you are accepted, but they do not have to do so. I would get the estimated PROFILE done NOW, so if you are accepted, it’s already submitted and maybe the office can do something with it before winter break, or you will have an acceptance without an aid package and won’t get that package until after winter break. What the school will do about ED extensions for commitments is up to them, but they’d likely be more amenable if things were in progress and they can whip it out fast rather than you are just sitting there having done nothing.

If you were deferred, that could be a reason. You didn’t submit all of the required documents.

I’m believe Penn is need blind, isn’t it? If thwt is the case, financial, aid documents would have nothing to do with the admissions process.

Though Penn is need blind in regard to Regular Admissions freshmen in the traditional programs, I don’t know if it’s entirely need blind. Very few school are 100% need blind, if any. There are situation where they are need aware. In the case of ED students who checked that they are asking for fin aid, if all the paperwork is not given to give an aid package, it woulldn’t be unheard of to just defer the student since giving admissions without a need package can give the student an open end to keeping the option to decline ED since the student can’t say if the school is affordable for the family It’s insufficient info to give the entire ED package and keep the ED deal sacrosanct. Nothing to do with being need aware at all. If any materials needed for a process are not included, it’s reason enough to delay. It’s not that it’s a big deal. ED applicant gets deferred to RD because fo incomplete paper work to complete the ED process.

I don’t understand how you can just forget to file the financial aid forms if financial aid is important to you. It is not a very good reflection on your work habits or your interest in going to this school.
