I am currently a student at syracuse university taking a break from school and looking to attend a community college near me. During my 1.5 years at cuse, I was seriously depressed. I was basically catatonic and suicidal, and did not attend any classes, obviously causing me to fail most of my classes. I ended up with a .7 gpa. Yes .7
I sought out help and therapy during my time at syracuse and time home. I have high hopes and dreams but was not able to unlock my full potential at all. I plan to attend a community college and plan to transfer back to a 4 year university as soon as possible. I have a bad feeling that my GPA at cuse will hold me back from many universities I want to attend. I also understand that most graduate schools and medical schools want a full academic history before admitting anybody. Has anyone been in a similar situation as I am? Am I completely hopeless?
I have no experience whatsoever with this kind of situation, but the best thing I could think of is just kick ass from now on, and whenever you apply anywhere write your essay or whatever about your time at syracuse and how you struggled with and overcame clinical depression. I feel like people would understand and look highly upon you as long as it appears as an anomaly compared to the rest of your performance. Good luck man!
You will have to submit transcripts from Syracuse, but a solid performance in your CC should redeem that difficult year. Since you probably ended up with few or no transferrable credits, you will need to start from scratch. That gives you an opportunity to build a good two-year GPA. I think your prospects for a quick transfer are poor, and you should give yourself time to re-build your life.
