I Got $2,650 Fin. Aid

Hoorah! That means I'll have to pay only 42,000 a year!

Oh, wait, that's not good. :(

So now I will go to beg and plead with the admissions office for $$$, because I love Southern Cal.

:/

Ouch, that sucks!
Would you mind sharing your EFC so I know what I might be in for.
Thanks

EFC: $55,000

I suppose the EFC explains a lot.

On the other side, there have been posts from students at 'SC who have EFCs of two to three thousand, and they have gotten some very cush fin. aid packages from Southern Cal, like in the upper twenty thousands (congrats to them).

Best wishes.

two to three thousand is much lower than $55,000...

Well, technically speaking, your parents should be capable of paying for it, if they are willing to do so. Maybe you can work something out. Definitely discuss the situation with USC and express your desire to go there.

My efc is less than half and I got 9600, but we still cant reall afford it so I will right an e-mail asking if there is any help they can give.

I just checked out the fin. aid folder again, and actually read very thoroughly what they "gave" me. The $2,625 was OFFERED as the Stafford LOAN. Which means someday I'll have to pay that measly amount back, anyway.

They literally aren't giving me jack.

I feel stupid and disadvantaged.

Your EFC is $55,000.

:|

What the heck do you expect?

Did you happen to send in all of that other info to the campus, like your parents' 2004 income tax returns, student non-filing statment, CSS profile, costodial parent form, etc.? The same thing happen to me; my preliminary finaid package said that I would only be getting about $2,650 off a loan, which is very minimal amount. BUT that was because I had yet to send in that other info.

with EFC of $55k, u should just pay ur share of tuition. so other much unfortunate kids can get more fin aid. please be considerate of other people.

You're not alone. I got the same thing - just a $2625 unsubsidized Stafford loan, which everyone gets. Our EFCs are too high. Other schools would do the same. Why give need-based aid to students who don't need it?

Here's why, because EFC does not necessarily mean that your parents really can cut a check for $55,000. Some people have been independent since graduating high school and don't have the "Daddy spoil me" dynamic that some students do.
