I got a 1580 on the SAT but only a 19 on the essay. Do I have to retake?

This was my first time taking the SAT so I didn’t study a lot for the essay, so I ended up with a 6/6/7. If I want to apply to T20 schools like Harvard, Princeton, etc. do I have to retake the SAT?

I really don’t want to because I can’t guarantee that I will get a 1580+ on the second time, even if I improve my essay score. Can I make it up with a 5 on the AP English Lang. & Comp. test or something?

If this info is needed: I am interested in majoring a science/social science area of studies like non-premed biology or sociology.

Thanks a bunch!

No. The 1580 is a great score and most colleges have eliminated the with essay requirement. The 19 will not be the reason you are rejected, if that happens,

No my D got a 1560 and an 18. 17 apps/ 15 acceptances, 1 full tuition scholarship. Lol she’s an English major.

Outside of Cal-Berkeley, no T20 school (iirc) is going to require, or even care about, the essay score. Take the great score and focus on what’s next.

But don’t apply Top 20 without looking at testing requirements, lol. What they say, not asking strangers. Same for the rest of their expectations. Don’t shoot blind.
