I got a 2000 on the SAT, should I retake for honors college?

I'm fairly confident in my ability to get into regular admissions, but should I retake the SAT for the extra 70 points required to be automatically eligible for the Honors College?

Yes…char

what is char?

characters…I needed 10 to answer you.
If you’d like to go Honors and are thinking about Hume for housing etc. it would be good for you to retake the SAT. good luck!

You can just petition… Apparently it’s pretty easy to get in by petition… If you don’t score high enough don’t worry about it because in the long term, honors is pointless anyway

But my daughter got in by petition easy enough. I think she had 2050.

I’ve heard that the honors college besides nicer dorms is nothing special. The honors programs in each college and above all graduating with honors are much more significant. If you want to get in because you think it will look good on a resume then I would say don’t do it…but I mean if its for housing then sure…I guess.

You’re saying if I want the Honors College on a resume I SHOULDN’T retake it?

No I am saying if the only reason you want to retake the SAT is to get into the honors college because you THINK it will look good on a resume then it isn’t really worth it. The content that you put on a resume is stuff you should be able to talk about in great detail when asked upon, and there is very little difference between the normal curriculum and honors curriculum.

Honors has its perks…if its not too expensive for you, I would go ahead and retake. Doesn’t hurt to try once more, right?

Why do you believe the Honors program is “pointless”?

UF honor’s isn’t “pointless”, but it’s not as involved as say University of South Caroline’s (the best in the nation) or the University of Alabama’s programs.

UF’s is more like a two year program (unlike the above schools 4 year programs), it doesn’t add any “honors” to your diploma.
However, for your first two years it does have several advantages, including priority registration for classes (which by itself could make it worthwhile), and honor “classes”.

[University of Florida Honors Program](http://www.honors.ufl.edu/)

You will get out of it, what you put in (or are willing to take). Whenever you go to a large state school (UF, FSU, etc.), it’s easy to “get by”, but to truly take advantage of such a large school (with so many resources), you have to aggressively seek them out. For example, being in the Honors program would help in getting into a research opportunity, while still a freshman (though it’s NOT required). However, if you’re just setting around, no one is going to offer you anything. :)
