I’m currently a junior and I recently received a 36 composite on the ACT (9 on the essay, 33 combined English/Writing). I’m scheduled to take the SAT in June, but there are a few problems. First of all, my practice scores have not been where I would like them to be (hovering around the 2100-2200 range) and I would need to send the SAT score in since I’ve already taken two SAT subjects (Math 2 - 790, Physics - 780). Second of all, I’m not sure if taking a second standardized test after already getting a 36 on the ACT would seem like over testing.
The top schools I’m looking at are the Ivy Leagues, specifically Harvard, Yale, and Princeton (like basically everyone else).
Basically, do the selective schools specifically look for the SAT? Or is the ACT 36 good enough.
Don’t bother! You have a great score on one of two equivalent tests.
Only if you need to confirm you NMSF status.
I’m not sure how the NMSF works but I think to be a finalist you need to take the SAT to “confirm” your PSAT score but other than that, no reason to take the SAT with a 36 on ACT.
You got a perfect score on the ACT, unless you can do the same on the SAT, you already maximized your potential. Unless the college you’re applying to requires SAT/ACT
^ No college requires both the ACT and SAT. Only take it if you feel like losing sleep on a Saturday morning.
As previous posters noted, if you don’t care about national merit, then no.
There is no need to take the ACT. Congratulations on your great score.
Congrats on the great ACT and Subject Test Scores!
As the others have said, unless you are competing for NMF you can skip the SAT.
