i am really depressed now. as of now, I have a 3.8 GPA (UW), but after this semester, i am almost sure i will get a C in AP us history; i dont know how to bring it up. i am really pissed, but what bothers me even more is that my parents will be disappointing. They get mad when I get B's, so I cant even imagine what would happen if I get a C. Also my sister goes to USC, so my parents have high expectations for me, but i really dont know any prestigious university i can get into with my qualification. I dont even have any extracurricular, so I really dont think i will get anywhere decent. my school is REALLY competitive, so additionally that makes it even harder for me to get into a good college. I rank somewhere int he 30th percentile in my school. I have a 2130 sat, but i feel like i still wont get anywhere with my C. i dont even know what to do in life as of now. i wanted to be an accountant but i dont know if i am even academially capable enough. i head that inorder to be an accountant you need to be able to do a task for several hours without getting distracted, and i cant do that; infact thats the reason i am failing in apush. i think i have adhd because i never do well in subjects i find boring. i dont even know what to do. should i just give up? i probably wont get anywhere big anyway right? fk me

Seriously you need to calm down. Why would you think one c will keep you out of a good school? Talk to a counselor.

If you think you have ADHD, you should get tested. If you do have something that’s interfering with your ability to work, you should get help for it–it will get better

I know people with C’s on their transcripts who’ve gotten into the ivy league - one bad grade in a rather difficult AP course won’t keep you out of a good school.

@TigerCC2014 i want to calm down but i cant ok? i cant go talk to the counselor because my parents would kill me. they are strict indians, and if i talk to the counselor, they would practically disown me. i feel restless and i dont know how to get better.

@bodangles. i took online tests for adhd. i was give a score of 43 (anything over 34 is considered adult adhd). i cant get professionally tested becuase, again, my parents would kill me. for example, i told them i wanted to major in hospitality management and they refused to talk to me for an entire day. they are the most stubborn and inconsiderate people i met. i cant get tested in a clinic, but i am pretty sure i have it.

Most people don’t do well in classes they don’t like, not just people who may have ADHD. A couple bad grades won’t keep you out of a great school (trust me, I’ve 3 C’s for semester averages). Your parents just want you to be successful and you can still do that even though you may have bombed (at least to your/your parent’s standards) a singe class. Your parents will get over the grade and you should too, especially since it won’t matter one bit once you leave high school.

If you don’t get official help with that, you’re going to be struggling with it throughout high school. Throughout college. Until you can finally consider yourself free of your parents. Years. And years.

Well, first, breathe.
Now, no one on this website knows you or your parents as well as you do so if you feel like you’ll get in big trouble with them, then you know what to brace yourself for. However, I’m sure they won’t disown you if you tell them that you feel like you have ADHD. Maybe if you tell them how it’s interfering with your schoolwork, they’ll move fast to get the help necessary for you.
Please remember that one C does not make you an idiot nor incapable of doing what you want to do. Your parents are on the strict end of the spectrum but really, your mental health is much more important than your grades.
I’ve seen smart people with untreated problems and inattentive/overattentive parents go down the wrong road so if you’re realizing something is wrong, please do something about it!

Kill them before they kill you.

Panic and overreact

Post a hasty thread on CC

JK.

@Frohawking gave some great advice, and I’d like to state that the one C is not going to be what determines an acceptance or rejection anywhere, ever.

BTW, get some sleep. I found that I was able to greatly increase my academic prowess due to getting 7+ hrs of sleep compared to 3-5.

In college you will be free of them and can get adderall or whatever. So there is always looking forward.

First of all, figure out what went wrong. Are you just not paying attention in class? Are you not doing the work? Are you failing tests? Seriously, write down a list of what went wrong. Then think up solutions: sitting in the front, taking active notes, checking in with your teacher more often, studying better, etc.

Then email your teacher- or better, go talk to him in person. Be reasonable, admit your mistakes (if you weren’t doing hw, failing tests, etc) and ask if there is ANY way you can bring your grade up to a B. Show him the list of your ideas. Seriously, he will be much more likely to help if you show you’re trying to actively improve.

If your teacher basically says, nope, you’re stuck with a C- that’s ok. A C in a VERY hard AP class is not going to completely eliminate your chances of getting into a good college. And if you’re really stressed out in an AP class, maybe you shouldn’t go to a super duper competitive college. Remember, it’s about what fits you.

As far as this one grade- you’re just going to have to be rational and tell your parents. Tell them you already talked to the teacher, you have a plan for next semester, and you can improve.

And on that note, even if you DO get the grade boosted up, it seems indicative of a larger problem. First, if you have ADHD, it would definitely be worth talking to your counselor/parent and getting medication. I have friends with ADHD and their medicine helps them a lot in school. You should also make a plan with your counselor (who might be easier to talk to than your parents or teacher) of how to improve your grades.

Good luck!

Kill or be killed, nomsayn?

You got a semester C, chill tf out. Colleges don’t even see your semester grades. Get an A next quarter and you’ll have an A or B for the final grade, which is what is on the transcript.
