i got a c+ freshman year in a core class. my freshman year grades weren't the best (severe illness) and i go to the best private hs in the country so the curriculum is really hard and strenuous. will it hurt me too badly if i want to go to yale? i got straight A's after that.

I’ve had straight As except an A- freshman year up until this year. I got a C+ (79/100) in AP Bio and am poised to get a B(84ish/100) for the second semester. I talked to my guidance counselor and he said that in conjunction with my otherwise near flawless academic record, high test scores, and ECs, the C+ would have little effect on me. Especially since I have been getting 4s on my practice AP exams and 700+ on practice subject tests for Bio.

So pretty much, what I’m getting at, is that no, it won’t affect you as long as you have an otherwise great record. You won’t be denied for 1 C or a few Bs in advanced classes. Just make sure you focus on ECs, essays, and tests as well!
