I’m fine with it, but why are people so obsessed with the grade I got? LIke are they Premeds? Is that why?
Don’t know how it affects you, but a C- would be problematic for a premed. Most med schools will not accept a grade less than a C in a premed req and would require a retake of course. In addition the new grade would not replace the less than C grade, both grades would be factored into one’s GPAs. And if one scored anything less than an A in retake, this could be a huge red flag to a med school as they’d wonder about an applicant who had two chances at a req science course and still seems to struggle.
@Jugulator20 Thank you! I thought Med schools would take anyone. Since pharmacy school takes low GPA students
Every person has his/her own goals. If a C- sets you up to be successful in your future goals, then it is just fine. A C- likely would not be a strong enough grade for a pre-med student, a student who wants to pursue a PhD in chemistry etc. Going forward I’d recommend that you don’t share your grades-- that way nobody will “be obsessed” by them.
I loved first semester organic chemistry. Second semester was a different story. I could never figure out how to study for it. Haunts me to this day. D’s Both times I took it. Sigh.
Did you share your GPA from last semester with them? Maybe they wanted to know if you were successful in your goal to get off academic probation.
Say what? Average GPA for Pharm schools in California is ~3.5.
Yeah, I told them about it. I went from 1.84 GPA to 2.99 this semester. Right now My GPA is 2.4
Congrats!
@CopperlineX2 Organic Chemistry 2 is really not bad if you have a professor who does only multiple choice and recycles almost half of the questions from past exams and put it in the final. The only reason I passed was that I knew the answers from the past exams. The ones I got wrong I knew the right answer because I studied very hard on how to do those problems. I could have gotten a better grade but the first exam I did poorly. He let us use a cheat sheet but the cheat sheet was probably the reason why I got a bad grade. The next two exams I did much better.
Yeah, never saw a multiple choice organic chem test. Just remember writing mechanisms problems, chasing electrons all over the place. I always thought I was really smart until that class. Pharmacy school was my goal. Only graduated with a 3.0. Never applied. Just got married & had a couple kiddos. Don’t give up! You’ll regret wasting your college years on such a crappy, hard major forever if you don’t achieve something with it. Even if you have to do a post bac year KEEP GOING!
Thank you! My goal is a PhD in Meteorology after getting my Masters in Environment chemistry or oceanography. I want to use my chemistry knowledge to understand how the atmospheric works and see if new ideas will work to reduce many compounds that go up to the sky.
You might want to brush up on that material before you need it again, like for the GRE.
That’s only if I take the GRE chemistry. I might take It or no
Won’t you need it to apply to grad school?
no. I’ll just have to take the regular one. I can if I want to.
Oh I see. Good luck whichever you decide!
