It was in a fashion class. At my previous school I had an A+ but I transferred schools and they were working on setting up a fashion show. I had previously been in foster care so I had to attend therapy sessions on Saturdays, which was the day of the fashion show. Since I didn't go my grade dropped to a D-, averaged with my A from my old school is about a C. This really affects my GPA which should be a 3.8-3.9 but now it's a 3.6-3.7. Should I explain this bad grade on college applications or just leave it alone?

You should definitely explain it. You don’t deserve that C, and a 3.8-3.9 is noticeably better than a 3.6-3.7

Maybe even talk to your current guidance counselor about it.

Not that your guidance counselor can change what happened, but you might be able to ask him or her to address this grade, which is out of character for you, in the Secondary School Report.

As Sikorsky suggested, it’s best if you ask your guidance counselor to address it. That looks much better than trying to do it yourself. Use the space on your application to discuss your accomplishments, not to focus on your one less than stellar grade.

Thanks everyone, I hadn’t even thought of that. Hopefully my guidance counselor will understand and adress the issue.

To give credit where it’s due, I think jibler actually suggested it first in this thread. But I concur.

Good luck, mayradio.

Haha, well thank you, Sikorsky. We’re all here to help each other out (i hope), so it’s no big deal.
