I got a D in geometry ... both semesters

Hi ! I’m a junior in high school, which means college apps are so close to being my responsibility! I want to go to a UC or a state but here the thing : I got a D in geometry … both semesters freshman year but otherwise I had all A’S. It’s passing for my Highschool , so I moved on to Alg2 , passing with a B. I’m now in precalc and I’m doing pretty good , do I need to retake geometry senior year ? My counselor told me if I passed precalc with a C it would “validate” my D , what does that mean ? What are my chances at this point? I got nearly straight B’s sophomore year my GPA was a 3.2 but I’m doing really good this year. How does major improvement look in the eyes of colleges ? Thank you for any help!

The UC only calculates GPA for classes taken in 10th and 11th grade.

Your counselor is correct in that passing Pre-Calc validates the D. Since UC’s and Cal states do not use 9th grades in their GPA calculation, you should be fine GPA wise.

You need to calculate your UC/CSU GPA at the end of Junior year to see where you stand. Upward grade trends will be noted.

From the UC Website:
A student can validate a grade deficiency (D/F grade) in Geometry by successful completion of a higher level course.

A Higher Level Course being Pre-Calc.
