I was 1% away from passing. I am retaking the same class at cc. Do you think I should be able to replace the grade? I am diehard on U Chicago but with a D I don't know what is going to happen. I am going to be a junior. If I get a 4.0 or higher do I have a chance? Oh me oh mi. Please help. Is it hopeless? Am I now destined to a cc?

Wow, how did you end up with a D? What class was it? In any case, I would definitely retake it because you at least get to replace the grade; however, the D will still remain on your transcript.

It was Algebra II and Trig Honors. I am reatking it at CC so I'm not sure if I can swap the grade. ANyone know? I am taking pre cal H next year. I have always got straight A's in math :(

My teacher didn't teach well and learning it was difficult for me. I would even go in at lunch and have kids help me yet still I didn't pass! So it is hopeless?

Another thing is that sophomore year I had a lot of family difficulties that made me depressed. I let it get to me and one D was the result.

Can I still make Chicago? With the exception of grades, everything I do seems to fit; state science fair, lots of volunteer, various cc classes. I am a passionate student.

TO prevent this I am taking a precal night class in the fall while i take precal H in the day. Would this look weird? I don't want a tutor.

Yowch. I was in the same position this year (I got a D in calc). If that is your only blemish you're not TOO bad off. Yes, see if your high school will let you take it at a CC, however if you're already doing that poorly in Algebra 2 and trig, I'd worry about how you're going to do in pre-calc.

Good luck.

One grade isn't going to kill your chances, but just make sure you step it up and don't get sidetracked junior year. You can try playing the depression card on your college app as to why you got the D, but honestly, they see that stuff all the time, so they probably won't take it too seriously. And even if the grades don't swap, it at least looks better that you retook the class and got an A (assuming), rather than doing nothing about it.

And yes, precalc was easy (not for all, though), but I'm definitely sure you need a good foundation of algebra 2 and trig (identities, etc.) for calculus.

I don't think you can swap the grade...that sounds stupid.

the easiest math class I have ever took.

- I have ever taken.

Definitely retake the class and even if you don't get to replace the grade, you'll show that the D is not representative of your usual grades and that you at least WANT to replace it.

A lot of schools have grade forgiveness policies where if you get a grade of D or lower and retake the class and get a higher grade, they'll erase the original grade from your transcript, while it may or may not effect your GPA. If you have the time and opportunity, I recommend retaking it. It might help you if you already don't have a strong understanding of the material.

I got a D+ in the second part of Pre-Calculus and I was miserable for a while until I realized that one single grade shouldn't break my chances...especially since I'm doing waaay better in Calc.

I don't think a school will ever erase a grade from your transcript just because you retook it. At best, you can retake the class and they'll use the higher grade to factor into your GPA, but the D will still remain on your transcript. I've even heard of schools factoring the average of the two grades into your GPA.

^ My school erases the grade if you retake the class. But generally it's only in summer school.

^ Wow, talk about forgiveness.

I'm in a sort of similar boat. I got a D+ in Geometry Honors freshman year. Math and I have NEVER gotten along... well, maybe in 5th grade or something...

Anyway, back to my point! Just work hard next year and build up a strong momentum. Rising GPAs are looked upon favorably. I'm a rising senior and my math trend is definitely way up, largely due to my precalc class this past year.

Take the class over again online. That's my advice to you. & make sure you get an A on it online.

I actually advise against taking the class online. If you clearly struggled in the class even with your teacher's lectures, it will be much more difficult figuring out how to do things on your own.

"junior year will make you or break you"???????? holy s*** now i'm scared. i just finished my junior yr w/B's for 3 subjects, 1 B+, and an A-...now my GPA's down to 4.51 or somethin...am i screwed? now this got me scared. i'm sure next yr will be better tho...maybe i can bring it up a little bit?

Jump out your window.

Go sleep. It's worthwhile.

roffl algebra 2???
