Thank You for completing your application to the University of Virginia. We are so excited that we are one of your schools of choice. This time is one of anticipation and anxiousness as you wait to hear where your second home wil be for the next four years, and I want to take the oppurtunity to assist you in the weeks ahead as you make final preparations for college.

The Univeristy has become a national leader in retaining and graduating African American students who are satisfied with their uniiversity experience and academic excellence. To learn more about this experience, we have matched you to a cuurent African American student who can answer your questions about academics, student life and U.Va, or just talk to you while you wait. This student can share valuable information that may help when it comes time for your college decision. Look out for an Email with the subject: "Look Hoo's Talking: in the next few weeks.

Also, Please keep in mind important U.Va dates. Admission decisions are sent around April 1st. In order to recieve your financial aid package and admission letter around the same time, MArch 15th is the prioirty deadline to submit financial aid applicaiton. It is helpful to have both notices as you and your family review the admission decisoon

....and then some stuff about financial aid

jaw,
It is kind of a likely letter. Sort of, but not definitely. I'd be curious to see what others say. I've been studying the words carefully. "We are so excited that we are one of your schools of choice"---now that sounds very good!
Hooking you up with another AA student must take effort on their part and on the student's part. I can't see them going through so much trouble to locate an AA student, set up this match and such, for every african american student who applies. I suspect they are selecting the more competitive students. It just makes sense, don't you think?
It ends in a very friendly manner. Let's see what others say.
I kind of think a true likely letter would come from the head of admissions, not the Director of Outreach.
But, it's definitely a good sign, or at least I think so!

Hey jaw,
When did you post your midterm grades on the UVA site?
I'm surprised there hasn't been more feedback on this thread. It seems fairly important, at least to me?!
Best wishes

Hmmm... well this is kinda sad, people are getting their letters already and i havent gotten jack so i guess this means i didn't make Echols or Rodman...

damn, getting Rodman (or Echols if i decide against engineering) probably would push me to UVa over the other schools I'm applying to. Oh well...

It may be because I sent in my midyear grades a little late. I just put them in on Thursday and if ya'll were getting your letters on friday they had to be sent before that. Maybe theres hope for next week.

edit
Dang theres a lot of likely letter threads around here, I just saw the post from Dean J on another one of them and he said that the true Rodman/Echols Likely Letters have not yet been generated. yay?

jaw, the letter sounds like one that they send out to every black applicant with OK numbers. You'll probably get in, but you probably will not be an Echols/Rodman scholar.

Yea I do NOT expect to get Echols or Rodman lol....but none of my friends who are black and that applied got it thats why I was questioning it...I am going to act like I never got it and it means nothing so I don't get my hopes up.

mo8991--you say that you "received the same letter" and that you got in ed, right? Perhaps that is a positive sign to jaw, that this letter is a harbinger of good news, yes/no?
mo8991, are you a urm? Is that why you also got this letter? There would be a pattern there if true; just asking.
Thanks, and best of luck.

I'm Native American and I haven't received a letter like the AA applicants. So I doubt this is simply minority applicants. My guess is that this is a result of UVA's strong push for AA enrollment to continue the "highest AA graduation rate of all public schools in the US".

many colleges give out these letters to let you know they have received your application. this is to keep you from calling or e-mailing them and asking.
