OMG OMG OMG! Just got home from work and I had a letter from UVa sitting on the counter waiting for me...
"The Committee on Admission has reviewed you application and found it impressive. Your academic record, as you are probably aware, is unusually strong..."
...

I applied regular decision and have received nothing from UVA besides one or two e-mails that everyone who applies gets... should I be worried?

no, that's all i got until yesterday, when i got a likely letter. if you dont get a likely letter, don't worry too much. only about 500 of the 18,000 applicants get them.

I just want to clarify after all this buzz about the likely letters going around. I got admitted ED so I know I won't get a likely letter that would hint towards my consideration for echols/rodman. What exactly is the earliest indication I can hope for in being considered for these programs if I'm already accepted and committed?

live4 - Last year my son (who was accepted ED) received a phone call from an Echols' student towards the end of Feb. She just asked him if he was familiar with Echols and if he had any questions. He got the Echols invited letter later, when everyone else did.

Its not a "URM Letter", my nephew got a likely letter also, he is Asian. He applied regular decision.

mom99, did your nephew get a URM letter AND a likely letter? Or, just a likely letter? Would you mind telling me when the likely letter was dated and how far away he lives from UVA? IS or OOS? Great stats?
I'm just trying to hang on to hope that I live far away enough from UVA, that it just hasn't gotten to me yet.
Thanks, and congrats to your nephew.

My nephew lives about 2 and half hours from UVA. He is top 5 in his class and has good SAT scores. Last two years he worked 25hrs a week and took challenging classes and did very well. Plus he has a side buisness and plays violin with a local university orchestra. He got likely letter congratulating him on all his accomplishments about a week ago. Good luck, hope this helps.

the letter was dated feb 15th

Thank you LizzeE and mom99,
I haven't gotten the letter, so I guess that I'm not on that list. I live about 5 hours from UVA and am OOS. I appreciate that you took the time to answer my question. I love UVA, but have other irons in the fire, so that's OK. Good luck to all.

We're not done with our review by any means and those letters go out in waves.

I think everyone should take a look at that blog. Very helpful.

Powderpuff, when I applied in '05, I was expecting a letter the entire month of february...but it didn't come until march 2. It's too soon to assume you won't be getting one, especially if you have HYP credentials.

Thanks again Dean J and to you cavalier302. I have to admit that I was feeliing a little discouraged, but was trying to take it in stride. I read Dean J's blog (which I follow all the time) and now I have a different perspective on things. Patience is a virtue!

Remember that only a fraction of the admit pool gets one of those likely letters. Plenty of students won't get a personalized letter from us until the offer letter arrives.

I got my Look Woo's Talking Email today...i was very excited lol...The email was from a third year student and she happened to be from my area which is cool because I'm OOS. She told me a little about herself and asked me if I had any questions. I'm responding to her email now!

Congrats, jaw!
I still haven't gotten mine yet. :( Maybe it will come in MArch?

my Look Hoo's Talking E-mail, I mean.

only one of my others friends got this letter and his email hasnt come either. Its whenever the student who you have decides to send it to you.

powderpuff,
Keep looking for the letter. My son received a likely letter today, dated March 2. He submitted his mid-yr rpt on the last day possible (his school had JUST redone it - recalculated rank, etc) so maybe UVA wanted to see how he was doing with 6 APs this yr. He went through 2 interviews for Jefferson Scholar before being eliminated...
