Nah just kidding. Seriously though, I wonder if they send out 'likely letters' in the EA round?

They did last year...I remember reading about them on the old CC. I think one girl in my school got one too, but for RD.

I just got so jealous for like, 2 seconds right there... lol

what is a likely letter?

When they basically tell you that you got in, without saying it directly (because they're not allowed to)

oooo i want one!!
what do they say?
"we are so pleased that you have applied"
"we hope you are anticipating our decision"
"wink wink nudge nudge"

huh???!!!there's such a thing called a likely letter???!!!
what's the point of sending one anyway? will everyone accepted be sent one or just a select few?

From what I've heard, likely letters are sent to the real catches that Yale WANTS - people for whom Yale is only one of many amazing schools to choose from and not the best school in the world (which, clearly, it is). I would imagine that really impressive athletes, or URM's with great scores, would be on the top of the list for recieving likely letters.

I don't think they have them for EA applicants mainly because there just is not enough time for them to really figure out the "likelies". They do them for regular decision.

There are only about 20 or so people who get them for RD. I'm not sure about EA

Most schools don't send any for EA/ED.

only 20 people get them for RD!!??

yupz, so don't be too disappointed/disheartened if you didn't get one. After all, 1180 (or so) people got in without a likely letter

20 or so people sounds inaccurate to me - isn't it about 10% that get likely letters? Likely letters aren't sent for Early Decision, generally because you're bound to attend if they accept you, so there's no need to convince you to pick their school.

they send out likely letter for ea? OF COURSE NOT!

the whole point of having likely letter is so that they want the student to know he will be LIKELY or shall i say certainly admitted to the school. that way, the student will hopefully consider that college as a first choice. but if someone is already applying ea, they already state that the college is their first choice, whats the point of likely letters? gee. and you think a 2 week advance notice will make a difference?

I agree that its pretty unlikely that they send out likely letters for EA. However, none of us explicitly said that Yale was our first choice since we agreed to a nonbinding decision plan.

Anyway, I think the point of the thread was that all of us are nervous, can't wait for the 15th/16th, and would feel a whole lot better if a likely letter showed up in our mailbox.

i wish Yale were ED still. :(

Yeah, I agree.

Why do you wish it were ED? Did that make the early choice less competitive?

For one thing, it made a much bigger statement about a student's commitment to Yale.
