Did anyone else receive this? What does this mean?

My guess would be that you wrote a risky essay, and that one of the admissions people wanted to reassure you that if you don't get in, it won't be because of the risk you took with the essay. Of course, admissions is a committee decision. But it sure sounds as if you can bet on a very strong advocate when that committee meets.

wow...what was the essay about?

Could it be a likely letter? I didn't think Columbia sent them out, but it's possible. Be gracious you got personal recognition from the committee. Someone who they otherwise weren't interested in wouldn't get that kind of attention.

it means... congrats

Dude...thats impressive. Congrats. Prolly got a great shot.

was this an email? congrats on watever u wrote.. it must've been amazing.

mind PMing it to me?

lol you need to ask what it means? come on...

Well if you got that, wouldn't you be too estatic to see the clear picture of his chances depicted in the email? I would. I wouldn't notice if I got stabbed after reading something personal (and great) from an adcom. Congrats

It says that u have been definitely rejected by Columbia.......

:p

"lol you need to ask what it means? come on..."

i'd like to say that CC is a board for the brags to....brag basically.

Bouncetotheizzo, what are your stats...I'm a little curious.

lol statics, if you're going to brag, i'm fine with that

however, you have to brag smart...say it like,

"i just got an email from Columbia about my admissions essay...did anyone else?"

if you are really unique in some way, I can see someone taking the time to comment.

Thats why Im wondering. My stats arent "stunning".
3.33 gpa representing in this house.
4 AP's senior year - they are the death of me but I got a 4.28 gpa for midyear
1340 (670 on both).
790 writing = gangsta (I wrote about the genocide in Sudan cuz a. I had written an article for the school newspaper the night before and b. they really like it when you write about current events).
ummmmm, lots of extracurriculars with leadership and ish
Litteraly amazing recomendations (like, they could get me into college alone because me and one teacher I had write it are really tight and she knows me really well. I want to go into Human Rights Major - hence columbia and not for its location like all the rest of you - and the teacher taught me in human rights and made me want to go into it.)

I go to the oldest school in the country though. Its an exam school and stuff so that gpa is actually like a 4.5 anywhere else no joke. On paper though, I look pretty average I suppose - except my essay was pretty unique I guess. I didn't write about how helping retarded kids helped me grow or how I really like doing karate because that's not what they ask... I wrote about myself, my family, my circumstances, and my goals. No one seems to EVER right about that and maybe that was what was refreshing about it.

really? that's exactly what i wrote about

bounce... are you a urm? not that you'd have to be to get noticed, you look like you've accomplished a lot... just wondering if that's what gave you a special push above the crowd.

well, it's not a 4.5 ANYWHERE else. . . . . . .

I dunno sort of. i'm gay, which was part of what my essay was about though not the focus of it. I dont think they count that as a minority though cuz they expect that to fill out on its own. I don't really know though.
