I got accepted, but is there a way to postpone my aceptence until 2019?

Meaning, im planning on going to my local college (in VA) for 1 year and then transfering to the UofMN sophomore year.

Since i got accepted, can i postpone it? Or would i have to apply again?

You are going to need to ask admissions at U of M.

Some colleges will let you defer for a year for a gap year (not all) but they don’t let you take classes elsewhere. Once you take classes elsewhere, you then become a transfer student and need to reapply. Definitely call an ask the university about their specific policy. I wouldn’t rely on an answer here for something so important to get right.

I don’t think any college or university will allow you to defer admission to attend another college. In their minds you would be accepting admission at a different institution. You would have to reapply as a transfer. Deferrals are allowed if the student is planning to use the gap year to work and save money, travel, or engage in another activity designed for to help them grow before attending college.

You have to call and ask. Very simple. They will either say “yes” or “no.”

If finances matter, ask if your aid will be the same if you attend another college first. We recently had a thread from a student who wanted to transfer to a college that had accepted him during his senior year and was surprised to learn that the ~$25/year grant offered to freshmen was reduced to $2k/year for transfers.

Why are you taking a gap year? Could you work for a year? Some schools allow that.
