I got Accepted !!Hooray!!

OK, I just got a letter in the mail today saying I was accepted to Main Campus. PSU was the only college I had applied to up to this point and I am really really relieved that I got in.

I had a 1260 640cr and a 620m really a 1270 but at PSU they do the one test day thing. and a 90 Average which I guess translates into a 3.5. and I was taking the hardest classes offered at my school.

The thing that kind of worried me was that I didn't do the OPTIONAL Activities and Essay section. BUT I guess that really didn't matter.

Now I think I might apply to somewhere like Notre Dame or Cornell just for Fun.

You know at first when I was looking at colleges I really just wanted to go somewhere far away, Like Boston, or NYC. But after I visited PSU and now that I really think about it. It really doesn't make any sense to go to a far away school, when I can get a great education at IN-STATE Prices.

I mean why pay $10,000 extra dollars to go to the University of Conneticutt. I really don't know What I was thinking.

I just feel so Great right now. I mean if I would have applied to a bunch of small schools I would have to wait until like Febuary to see if I was accepted. NOW I know I'm IN and all I really have to concentrate on now is SORT of keeping up my grades and Writing a Good Essay for Notre DAME.

And I might do just a Bit of celebrating/bragging to my friends at school. How does the Line "so are you going to a top 50 University" sound. Actually I won't do that to my friends, I'll mainly be doing that to the Validictorian at my school who is one of those people who is a validictorian just because She acutally studies and does All of her homework etc. she only got an 1180 on her SAT.

And I guess there is Scholarships and Stuff, Which now that I got into PSU I can concentrate on alot more because I won't be searching for other colleges to apply to.

Plus PSU has a freaking Harry Potter Club How Awsome is that. Notre Dame is my dream but PSU might be just almost as good an I might even have more fun in Happy Valley.

whoops I guess I should have posted this in the accepted/rejected thread. lol didn't really see that. I don't know how though.

Also I should say I got into the Fall Session. I actually visited on the 17th of november and online it said they reached a decision on the 18th. I'm guessing that was just a coincidence????? right????

Congratulations, Joey! Hope to see you there in Fall 2006.

PS...Are you ready for some snow over the next few days? lol. 4-8" seems like a reasonable forecast amount for the Oil Region at this point. I wish I was in your area rather than SW PA w/ much lower amounts. Snow is awesome.

How do you know I live in the Oil region????? I'm guessing I must have said that at some point on the forum but even I don't remember that. You must have a good memory or something.

but yeah I am ready for Snow there is actuallly like an inch or two on the cars as I look out the Window right now. Except my parents just said that it is going to get up to the 50's next week so the snow won't last too long.

So your going too setzwxman. What Dorms are you looking to apply to???

congrats you lucky basterd all of you

lol, you did mention it on here a while back. I remembered it b/c you rarely hear from people who live in that area on these boards. We have a cottage in the area that we frequent in the summer. I've been to WJET-TV24 in Erie twice to shadow one of their meteorologists (yes, I want to major in meteorology).

I really want to get into Irvin Hall, the interest house for EMS majors. You?

I haven't really looked into it at all. I was just really nervous about not getting in. I'm guessing you can probably see some of the Dorms and stuff online so I'll probably see what each looks like a bit more in depth.

I'm not really sure what an interest house is. But I,chose Undecided as my major.

Joey - When did you complete your application? What does the acceptance letter/package look like? Big envelope? Regular size envelope? Did you have lotsa honors and AP classes? I feel badly for melon - and its scares the stuffing outta me (appropriate for Thanskgiving huh?) GGT

I completed my application I believe like the first week of November or the last week of October, I don't really remember.

The package is White and in the lower left it says Congratulations in Blue, IT is big enough to fit a Folder( because that is what you get inside of it). I took the Toughest Classes Offered at my School, Which means Honors Calclus,Hon History, Hon (chemeistry and biology=both half semisters)) and AP English.

and I'm the only one from my small (130 person) high school who applied to Penn State Main Campus so maybe that had something to do with it. I would categorize my High School as Non-Competative, the opposite of some of the kids on here's school.

Good luck, and yeah I feel bad for Melon too, I would have been crushed if I hadn't gotten in, since I haden't even applied to another school.

Thanks for the info - I'm glad we see good news for "normal" people here - if the only people who were posting where the highly able learners or whatever they call those hard working/smart folks who pull 4.5 GPA's and 1600's - we'd all get discouraged. Now relax and enjoy that senior year! GGT

what freaking killed me was the godamn rejection package was as big as my sister accepance package two years ago so i got the mail running in jumping, and BOOM, THE TEARS HIT

congrats :)
the Harry Potter club was out in full force for the film premiere, it was crazy stuff
try to get some of the suite dormitories, I know a few freshman who did, and they love them
come prepared for the FTCAPs, which are the placement tests for math and english classes- if you want an engineering or science major, you probably need to get into math 140 (calculus I) so brush up the old algebra skills
UP is bizarrely humid/hot in late August, so I'd recommend bringing or buying a fan if you get an older building
bring a car or make friends with someone who has one, because the mall and walmart/target/wegmans/barnes and noble/other big chain stores are all located a decent distance away, and you never know when you need a specific case of soda or something (... clean socks) and can't find it at McLanahans
have fun!

Cabot..where are the suite dorms? And do they have a bus route that can take you to those larger stores?

Geeze peezy Melon - I feel so badly for you - I hope you find a way to get there - I kinda know how you feel - I wanna go to UMD so badly I can taste it - I have ALWAYS wanted to be a Terp - but to get into College Park these days one needs a 1300 and 4.0. So College Park is way beyond reach for me - its somewhere out there by the moon and the stars. I applied anyway - but seems the only way I could get in would be to attend one of the state community colleges and transfer - they guarantee you admission. But I just can't face that - so I'm hoping to go blue and white and I hope I can get a "real" big envelope. Sometimes life just isn't fair and the campflage rejection letter sounds awful. They should have a category on the app for really really really really wanna go there - and give points for desire!

i will get there guys, trust me, its in my blood, and not through freeking altoona

The suites in Eastview Terrace (<a href="http://www.hfs.psu.edu/eastview/%5B/url%5D">http://www.hfs.psu.edu/eastview/</a>) are mostly for upperclassmen, but somehow, a few freshman got in. The building is brand new, compared to the others, most of which are your basic shoeboxes with electricity. Most freshman do end up at East Halls (<a href="http://www.hfs.psu.edu/east/)%5B/url%5D">http://www.hfs.psu.edu/east/)</a>, however, there are activities specifically geared towards first years you might enjoy there.

Eastview Terrace looks like only Freshman Football players would get in there. A single room with a single bath? I wish. I'll be fine with just a plain old dorm.

And Cabot, how fast is the internet on Campus, I'm stuck with dial-up now.

there's wireless in most spots, and is usually pretty fast. there are computer labs all over campus, too.

WOW, a single room with a private bath? Who gets those???

probably the only reason freshmen ended up in eastview this year was because of the lack of housing or because they had a helluva lot o' transfer/AP credits. if you're a freshman looking for suites, the new ones are being built in the north dorms. east dorms are pretty depressing, but at the same time, it's a great way to meet people, as there are SO many freshmen up there. then again, as cliche as it sounds, the best way to meet people is through extracurriculars and parties.

... and facebook, har har har.

but, really, west/north are the best dorms as far as the room itself goes. west has the best dining hall. pollock has a great location in relation to the hub/downtown/most campus buildings. it's all about what you're looking for in a place to live.
