Now that I got accepted to SF state, I wondered if anyone has any further details about the cinema program there?

Hi,

My son was accepted at San Francisco State University and lives in NY. He was also accepted at USF. Other than USF being private, what is the major differences b/n these schools? I was on both campuses and think that USF is much prettier. I spoke with folks at USF, but didn’t at SFSU. What is everyone’s opinion about the two colleges?

Thanks.

I think it depends on the kid’s major (go online and compare course offerings - range, frequency of offering, whether there are open spots generally speaking or if kids are getting shut out of the popular classes). SFSU is cutting back classes but so are the private schools.

Other than that, sit the kid down, decide 2 or 3 TOP criteria, and decide from that. Trying to decide from a list of 10+ reasons is chaos, and usually it is just 1 or 2 items that make or break a choice anyhow.

For me, I always had to juggle the idea of wanting individual attention (small classrooms) with the desire for a wide choice of in-depth topics/specialties. The former tilted me toward private schools, the latter towards larger publics.

This forum seems to be very inactive

It is kind of quiet here lately.

The two schools couldn’t be more different. One is a small private school, the other is a massive public school. When I attended SFSU the ONLY time I saw my counselor was when I was ready to graduate and had him sign my forms. That won’t be the case at USF. SFSU worked for me, but it’s definitely not for everyone.
I can’t speak about the SFSU cinema program, but I remember some very good looking theater arts majors…
