I got an "acceptance letter" saying I was an "exceptional candidate" and that they just wanted to know I would be accepted for RD admission when they send letters out. any1 else get this?

I am not privy to how the Admissions Office works and my daughter was accepted EA; however, it seems like an awful lot of extra work for an overworked admissions staff with 22,000 + applications to send out a "pre-acceptance" letter.
My 2 cents. But I'm sure that the poster "Fordham Admissions" will clarify.

Oh wow, maybe some acceptence letters are mailed even now. I am so worried for mine!! I just think Fordham is an amazing school, i am so nervous about their decision! There is still a time until April the 1st!

i got one too!. im soo relieved i got in.. i wanted an acceptance letter from a NYC school

I got one too. I'm hoping that possibly means they're willing to give out good scholarships in order to get us to come. Those of you who haven't heard, don't worry about it, they said in the letter they have only let a few people know and that the rest will go out at the regular time, which I think is at the end of March or April 1.

Congradulations!!!

I got one as well! Does this mean that I'm probably going to get some merit aid? I really really need aid and was kind of worried about getting it because I'm not in the top 10%, but I have a 31 ACT, 3.9gpa, etc etc. and it seemed like most aid went to top 10% people... this is like my glimmer of hope

My son just received this letter today as well. It states that in so many words, that although acceptance letters aren't going out until later on, they wanted to notify him early since he is in a "small group" of exceptional applicants, and that they hoped this reduced this stress during this time.

CMA1, congrats to your sone for his acceptance. Did the letter actually say that they wanted to reduce "stress" for a small exceptional group? As a parent of an applicant who applied EA and got deferred, this is quite disturbing. Everyone is stressing now. I really don't think a group of applicants should have been singled out. My D has friends who are part of this exceptional group who applied and Fordham is their safety. Again, I'm not taking away anything from the kids who have received these letters. I just disagree with the somewhat elitest philosophy behind them when all the applicants are going through the same thing....

Fordham has been around a long time, and their communication hasn't really evolved too well. You can't track applications online, and then they discourage contact by phone. Additionally, information was mailed accepting dancers into programs to which they didn't apply with no information given as to why. I know they have quite a volume to handle, but it appears that other institutions are doing a nicer job of communicating. While it's nice to acknowledge the select and exceptional applicants, I think all deserve a little decency in their treatment.

Well, so far I haven't had any problems communicating with Fordham, it was even more responsive than any other schools I applied to!
I just think Fordham is great and I would definitly choose it above any other school!
But I just think it would be more fair for all students to hear around same time from them, but its however their decision!
Congradulations to everyone who got accepted. I really hope I will be as well!

Ok, some excerpts of the letter for those interested are:

"On behalf of the Committee on Admission, I have some good news. You are one of a small number of candidates who have identified as truly outstanding applicants. ....
I would encourage you to "save the date" for our Spring Preview for admitted students scheduled for the weekend of April 14th and 15th....
Hopefully, the receipt of this letter will, in some small way, reduce the stress of waiting for admission decisions over the coming weeks..."
It was signed by the Director of Admission.

I know a lot of schools are sending out likely letters, so I would just consider this of the similar nature (although this is an actual acceptance) and a nice PR move by the schools.

Hmmmm. I don't know what to think of these "pre-acceptance" letters. My daughter applied, visited, toured, interviewed, showed a sincere interest, and hasn't heard a word from Fordham. She has a 35 ACT, 1540/2290 SAT, is a National Merit Finalist, and has all "A's" and strong ECs. I would think she'd belong in the pool of "exceptional applicants," but apparently not.

Yeh, that's kind of weird. Do you live in NY? Maybe it just hasn't reached you yet
.

"She has a 35 ACT, 1540/2290 SAT, is a National Merit Finalist, and has all "A's" and strong ECs."

Surely she's in!

We live in Kentucky.

Or maybe they are being nicer to people outside of new york?

I'm sure we'll hear from them at some point, but I guess she's just not one of the "exceptional" applicants. Alas.

Conventionally perfect. Alas indeed.

No. There's nothing conventional or perfect about my girl. She's smart and quirky, probably like a lot of Fordham applicants.
