I got an F in Calc II but...

Hey all
Im really distressed right now because I got an F in Calc II and I have been accepted into UC Davis, but it may get rescinded because of this grade.

While I will still submit my explanation and plan to retake the class during the summer, I really do feel like this teacher has been.... different (hard?unfair?) im not sure how to word it.

I understand that it has been my fault since some others have passed the class with A's and B's but there is another situation that has been bothering me

Throughout, it felt like he has been trying to fail me. On the first test, I got an F, and the first thing he asks me, is if i want to drop the class and I say no, since in his class there are 3 tests, 1 final and he will drop the lowest test score. Then, from that point, he thinks Im a foreign student. Im not a foreign student; I have lived in CA all my life......I dont correct him because I want to see were this goes.

After that I proceed to fail almost every damn test and he always only asks me if I want to drop the class... "Foreign students may have a harder time".

Then when the class is completely over, I email him about my grade and the guy emails me back with some Korean in it! ***

Originally, I wanted to submit my explanation withought mentioning my teacher and taking responsibility for my grade (there have been some people who passed which is how I know its my fault), but the more I think about it, the more I want to put this in. Im not sure if im trying to make something out of nothing. Which is why I am posting on this board.

i could see why he asks you whether or not you will the drop the class. if you can’t pass the first test, how would you fair for the later tests. (the teacher probably wanted to weed out possible droppers since calc classes are very impacted). Though you should report him for assuming that u were a foreign student ( any basis for discrimination?). If UCD has a admission admission contract prior your first semester, you should check it out. That decides whether your going to get rescinded. writing about a sour class isn’t gunna be quite impressionable.

Dear Above,
Thanks for replying back.
Ok so I probably wont say anything because I guess it really isnt a good excuse.
Unfortunately, there was a admission contract that I had to get a C or above in Chem and Calc for Biology Major.

I called the school and they told me that they had to review things as a case-by-case basis and will let me know after I submit my explanation( Im gonna do it tomorrow).

What possible incentive/motivation would he have for failing you intentionally? Did you actually understand the material on the second/third/whatever tests? Did you compare your exams with your classmates to see if you were graded unfairly? I don’t see how bringing this up to UCD could sound like anything other than petulant whining with a pretty sad undertone of conspiratorial paranoia tossed in.

@ above poster
I had to explore every possibility which is why i posted.
And I am very aware that putting this in my explanation would sound very much like whining :)

So you did understand the material well enough to where an F would seem shady?

Yes I do feel that way.
But guess what,… it sounds like whining like you said lol

EDIT: Im just gonna drop this, this thread makes me worry even more because now I have a whole other thing to deal with. and i feel like it wont help… thanks anyways though guys!!

Foreign students having a hard time my butt! I knew at least a few people that either had the book in korean or in chinese (different people lol) in my physics/math classes! Having a bad teacher is a bad thing, and I wouldn’t even worry about whether other people passed the class or not.

I can totally see how you got an F there.

We’re not admissions people though, so we can’t tell you if you’re going to get rescinded or have a chance out of that. We especially can’t help you on ‘making a deal’ to take the class over the summer, sorry man! Go call!

I think people in admission wouldn’t care whatever you have for excuse. They just want to see the RESULT. If I were you, I would call admissions office immediately.
