I got approved to honors english

Well I am a happy camper I was approved for honors english for next semester. The only downfall is I had to drop my engineering class, which means no more college credit, and I have to do summer reading within a 2 week span. But it is all worth it, however I really wana get into honors chemistry, but I dont wana ask my counselor because part of me feels like ive already asked for alot because I had to rearrange my whole schedule to fit this in, and another part of me is screaming to ask because its her job.

input?

What has to be rearranged? Wouldn’t you just take Honors chem instead of regular chem or whatever you would be taking?
And don’t hesitate to ask, it’s their job. You should try to take as many advanced classes as you can early on (im assuming your a fresh/soph) so you can load up on AP classes as a junior/senior.

Yayy. Honors English changed my life.

@HHSFTW I was saying I felt like I was asking to much of her because I had to like change every aspect of my schedule for honors english, and if I got into honors chem I would probably have to do the same. Probably drop my 2 skinny classes, french and American experience. And if I didnt take honors I would just be in regular chem, but Honors and Regular arent offered the same block so it creates conflict.

@Francaisalamatt, yea I am excited for it I love writing, and reading.

I still don’t get why you couldn’t just replace regular chem with honors chem? Like you have a row of apples, you take one apple out and replace it with a pear. Why would all the other apples have to be adjusted to make this change?
Are you planning on taking an AP chem/science class later on? If not, there’s no real point to taking an honors class tbh

^I disagree. For kids solely applying to MIT, then yeah, nobody cares about Honors classes because EVERYONE applying takes them. However if it’s an average state flagship that the OP wants to go to, then honors classes matter.

@HHSFTW because regular chem, and honors chem are not offered at the same time during the day so i would have to take a different class and move it around because honors chem is only offered like 1 block per day. and yea i would like to pursue a career in pharmaceutical studies so i think that an advanced chemistry would prove beneficial.

I thought everyone who wasn’t a complete imbecile took all honors/AP classes?

^Not true. In my school you don’t choose to take honors/AP the teacher chooses, so if the teacher doesn’t like you or know you, you can’t take it. So lots of smart kids are stuck in regular classes because of this.

@toxic that is very true

I hate how guidance counselors will only check the most rigorous courseload box if you were always in honors starting 9th grade even if you weren’t in honors because the administrators said you “weren’t ready” even though you had the necessary test scores. It’s a Catch 22! Luckily, I got into honors early so I don’t have to worry about it.

@math Yea i went to the department head and worked my way down.

It’s the same way at my school (except the parents can override the teacher’s decision). Still, the teachers generally only put the idiots in the regular classes. At my school, regular classes are basically remedial level.

I’m in Honors English 10th grade and its not much different from Regular. Its just that if you don’t put effort in your work you grade will drop down to at least a B. Wow that sucks that the teacher chooses if you can take an AP class.

It sucks though, I was going to sign up for AP Bio and they said I needed to take Honors Physical Science to know enough chem. I studied it the first day before school and got a 98% on the placement test and they still wouldn’t let me in… Still people in there barley make 60%.

@Funstuff yea i like honors because teachers dont treat you like idiots, and they are nicer because they know you wana be there. In my experiences atleast.

@columbian at our school if you were in honors bio fresh then you skip general physical science and go to reg chem or honors chem depending on your grade.

^ No, it’s not like that at all at my school. They treat honors kids like regular kids. The treatment you describe is reserved for AP classes. The regular kids get treated like autistic inmates.

FunStuff is right. Here’s how teachers generally treat students:
Regular- Autistic inmates (great way to put it)
Honors- They’ll usually show respect to the top 3 or so students in the class, but will treat the majority of the class like they’re idiots
AP- Teachers nearly always treat their students with respect, except for those 1 or 2 kids who clearly don’t belong in the class.
If you’re looking to not be treated like a tard-burger by teachers then your only option is ap

Alright so i found out the honors chem is only offered during french, and my social studies. I would have to drop those :(

What other classes are you taking if you’d have to drop French and social studies to take Honors Chem?

Well honors chem is a block, and french, and social studies are both skinnys, and 2 skinnys make up a block. and honors chem is only offered 1 block this semester
