i got deferred but i have a question- please help!

I got deferred ED from cornell- my SATs are 650 cr 600 m 660 wr. ranked 19/187 w/ a 3.8ish- frankly i'm surprised i wasn't flat out rejected. Anyway- I was thinking of retaking the SATs on jan 28th bc I did get a 720 on the lit sat 2 and I figure I can manage at least that on CR and my highest practice test for writing was 690 so I think I stand a shot of going up. I only took the SAT once in may 05. The only thing is my senior trip falls on the jan 28th test date & I'm almost fully paid. Is it worth it to miss my senior trip to retake the SAT and maybe/maybe not score higher in the end to maybe/maybe not get accepted RD to cornell?

Thanks.

-Jenna

If I were you I would skip the senior trip and take the SATs and just go on a road trip next weekend with my friends or something. Might as well try everything possible to get in so that you have no regrets later. There will be more weekends with friends, but this is your last opportunity for improvement on SATs.

We have similar stats--I have a 1240 cr and m and am 10/188 for my class and I got a 620 cr (so far)/720 literature. During my alumni interview, she told me i should highly consider taking the sats again because they want at least a 650 in cr and m. I am in fact taking them again, so I recommend that you do.

Another idea might be for you to do something hotel-related, and then let Cornell know about it. An internship or job over the Christmas holidays? A paper written, that touches on the hotel industry? A project for class next quarter?

Just trying to think out of the box.

I believe she applied to Human Ecology. Just because I am posting it does not mean that she is a Hotel applicant. I have knowledge outside of hospitality :p

i applied to human ecology for textiles & apparels (management). i've worked at a boutique for 1 1/2+ & got a rec from my manager. this is so frustrating- i feel like i'm qualified for the major- it's just i'm not amazing in math which screwed up my SAT. of course this senior trip which i already paid $150 would fall on my last chance for sats since the next admin. is april 1st which is basically the 1st day of admissions notification aka it's useless for seniors. btw skinnyfists, we're twins haha lmk if you get in. thanks to everyone who replied so far!

Sorry, thought you were Hotel. If you take the test in Jan. can you catch up with the kids on the trip later that day?
My son did some test prep at Huntington. Don't know if that's a national chain or not. They sliced and diced his math answers every which way to determine exactly what areas of math were causing him problems. He found it helpful, and scored 690, then 700.

how do you know already-- did you check the leaked link?

no the trip leaves from my school on friday afternoon and the sat is saturday morning. by the time i would get there (it's a ski trip in kerhonkson ny), it would be barely a day for me to spend there before leaving late sunday aft. the problem is my mother discouraged me from retaking saying i did well but i'm seriously doubting that i will get in if i don't boost them. although it would break my heart if i missed my trip & STILL didn't get in.

oorr maybe my leaked link check was wrong & i got in and i can go skiing happily haha.

haha it's always a possibility never give up hope !!

Retaking will show that you're still willing to work to get in. You're going to have a couple more winters for skiing but not for applying to Cornell (except if you transfer, but then you wouldn't be worrying about SATs)

Hey I'm in the same boat as you. I was wondering what your EC's where and the rest of your SAT scores so I can compare.

Also, what college / major were you applying for?

my sats were 600 m 650 cr 660 wr. 720 lit sat 2 and 600 math 1c sat 2.

i'm in arista/archon national honor society, an active member of jewish heritage club at my school, i volunteered in the school general office sophomore & junior years & i help out with all parent teacher confs, freshman orientations & open houses. i also work at a clothing store 15-20 hours a week and my major was textiles & apparels in human ecology. my rank was 19/187 and my gpa is roughly a 3.8- we don't do it on the 4.0 scale.
