Did this happen to anyone else? I did submit my app pretty early (like end of November) but I checked "regular decision." I'm not complaining, I'm just curious :) Oh, and it was Harpur.

Yes, my daughter applied regular decision to Harpur and her acceptance came in the mail today. Totally unexpected–we figured we wouldn’t hear until March. Lots of screaming! I’m very excited because it’s my alma mater; I’d love to see her attend.

Haha sounds exactly like what happened in my house. My mom is even a Binghamton grad too! Maybe it’s something they do for legacies :P

hi y’all…Binghamton legacy applications are flagged and stamped VIP in the admissions office (and yes, I am one too and work on the alumni admissions committee)…they are read in separate committee (which would explain why you applied RD but were already notified)…

It’s possible that some early action applicants that received deferred decisions withdrew their applications which opened spots for others. Also, anyone who applied early decision and were accepted is supposed to withdraw any outstanding applications. Anyone know stats on number of early action “defers” who are subsequently accepted or rejected?

Why would you submit regular decision if you got your application in so early?

Early admission is non-binding so they likely just took whatever they had received at the time and said, “hey, we might as well deal with what we have now, less work for later”

My daughter missed the early action deadline; her app wasn’t complete until mid-December.

Thank you for the info rodney. I had no idea. I have always been proud to be a Binghamton grad–I hope my daughter chooses to become one too.

I got my acceptance for the school of management today.
I am not a legacy and I did regular decision, I probably sent out my application sometime in early november. Im still waiting to hear back from other schools though so i havent made a definite decision yet.

I’m not really sure why I did regular decision. I think I just didn’t know when the early action deadline was and I was convinced I wouldn’t be done in time. And when I turned my forms into my school I said regular decision for everything, so I assumed my counselor wouldn’t get my papers in early enough for early action. I guess she did.

Applied RD and got big green acceptance envelope last week. From Wisconsin.

looks like BU is repeating history; expect to see alot more OOS acceptances from RD applications over the next few weeks…

…they did this last year and caused a huge uproar…especially here on CC

Is the letter only by mail? Do the acceptance letters and Rejection letters look the same? Are they all big and green? Sorry, I will get a heart attack at that moment, and I’m just preparing. And what if I sent my app at around Dec 28? When is the estimated time I would receive mine?

I’m pretty sure the acceptance letters and rejection letters don’t look the same. I can’t say for sure (because I haven’t gotten both…obviously) but usually from any school acceptance letters come in a big envelope with something like “Congratulations!” on the front, and rejection letters come in a small one. I got mine by mail first, and then a follow-up email.

If you applied December 28 then you (definitely) applied regular decision and so you shouldn’t hear until April. They aren’t rolling.

I applied to Binghamton (Watson) RD and sent in my application at 11:50pm on December 30th…lol I received an acceptance letter last week, go figure. My scores are alright SAT Math and Reading - 1510 SAT II’s I bombed on and never bothered to take them again SAT II Math I got 670 ugh… and my SAT Bio was even worse - 650 I just didn’t feel like retaking… oh well anyway my UW GPA = 4.0 and my class rank is 22. Again I think it’s pretty much a crap shoot getting into all the colleges there really is nothing set in stone. Good luck though
