I got in!!!!!but....

Well, first of all, I got in after a long anxiety of not making in, and truly glad about that! Since November, UCSB has become gradually my first choice for several reasons.
However, I fear, the situation may not go in the way I wish…
Background: My family is technically in low class, producing around 35,000 dollars per year, and we have 5 family members, including me and two older brothers… My father is jobless; He gets pension from South Korea where he worked as a professor.

Problem: My two brothers, in Fresno State University, are about to transfer to better university(My father deeply cares about college ‘title’), and despite my continuous suggestion to apply for UCs, they did not… other than UCB and UCSD(Kidding me now?)
So they will move to other state this summer, and my father asked, at today dinner, me to follow them…(Yes, I got in where they planned to transfer.) unless total fee per year is affordable…
I’m going to live on dormitory, and as I’m California residency, UCSB’s annual fee would be around 36,000 now without aid from University through FAFSA.
Is UCSB generous about a financial aid? If so, what’s my expected aid per year, if you can know?

Use their net cost calculator

If you’re a California resident, UCSB is pretty affordable. They offer pretty good aid to low-income CA residents. I’m pretty sure they will cover your full tuition…

The Blue and Gold plan covers tuition to students’ families who make less than $80,000 a year, qualify for financial aid and are residents of CA.

Thank you guys for replying! I wish UCSB would cover full tuition so that I can enjoy UCSB life!

Would you guys mind if I ask one more question?
I got super-duper aids fron UCSB, more than 25,000 dollars only for Freshman Year! It’s definitely gorgeous, so I, with smile, told my father about it,“I got 25,00 dollars only for freshman year… and at the rest of four years, it would be more than 10,000 dollars at least.’ But my father is stubborn as a metal, saying ’ You need to follow your brother, because I will move with your brothers.” Yes, that’s it. He wants me to attend same college with my brother, and because he did only apply for UCB and UCSD, which are not likely, he will move to other state… That being said, after my brothers are moving out, and so are my parent, my residency will not be California anymore…55,00 dollars for OOS tuition… It’s more than a half of my family annual income, and I do know UCs are stingy about OOS financial aid… How am I supposed to solve this trouble?

Okay, first of all, congratulations on getting in! All of the stress you built up with that post on feeling hopeless was all for nothing! Keep this in mind when you are feeling apprehensive in the future.

Moving on, I think it would help if you told us which school your father wants you to attend. That way, you can get some advice on how the education there would differ from the one you might receive at UCSB, with respect to your major. This is about as much help as I can provide – you should speak with your brother, friends, guidance counselor, etc. on how to approach your father about this and what to do if he refuses your request. People here don’t really know your situation, so you will get the best advice from people you actually trust. Good luck!
