SAT Subject Tests
Math Level 1: 590
Physics: 550
Literature: 530

1 CIT ECE Accept

Public High School (Title One)- Most of the kids get free lunch, drug problems etc.

11/erm...around 180

No AP tests. No IB

Dual Enrollment Student

I had an interview at the Carnegie Mellon Campus.

Female/White

nice work. what was your gpa, if you don't mind me asking?

No idea.

Average was 90/91 in 9th and 10th. 97 average in 11th. We are looking at a 95/96 for this school year. Incase you are wondering, family issues in 9th and 10th, but carnegie mellon didnt know that.

9th grade i had 1 study hall, all normal/general classes.
10th grade i had AP bio, but i took the test and i didnt really do top notch, That wasnt sent to carnegie mellon.
11th grade i did dual enrollment, so I had 4 total classes (2/semester) at a college (community) and managed A's. Those didnt appear as 100's on the report card, the teachers at the college reported a number grade just as a high school teacher might.
12th grade(this year), I have 8 total dual enrollment classes scheduled (4/semester), Ap calc AB, economics, food preparation, novels and photography. I dont plan on taking the Ap test if i can get away with it (the school wants to make it a requirement because we are notorious for getting 1's on the calc AP test... yeah, you read right.). They ditched calc bc last year or i would have had that.

My school is one of those where they have metal detectors, very low average test scores (480/500 per section), frequent drug searches, high drop out rate, etc. Even though its a smaller city (8,000 population?)

I had the highest SAT scores in the class.

Carnegie Mellon is a dream come true for me. I was so happy i cried.

congrats, i am sorta in same boat as you

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/623727-chances-would-appreciated-chances-back.html

Nah dude, you are in way better shape than I was and i got in. GEEZ.

WAY more ECS, and i took barely any APS. You have better SAT scores. The AP class i did take and finish i got an 80% straight.

My stepfather didnt graduate high school and doesnt have a GED ( Carnegie Mellon doesnt know this to my knowledge.) and my mother only had 2 years at a community college in north carolina. Forget legacies for me.
Also, i didnt take any honors classes.

You're in definitely im thinking.

thanks again congrats, i wish more kids like you and i were able to go to top notch schools. More to it than SATs and EC's. Again congrats, your my idol lol, speaking of which starts tonite

Well CIT middle 50% SAT MATH scores were 710-790. I tried for the hardest program i belive (electrical and computer engineering) to get into as far as CIT goes. I had a 620 in math.

Anything below 710 is bottom 25%, and since i had a 620, dude, i must have been in the bottom like 1-2%.

Congrats! You are a good example that stats aren't everything. Local context is very important.

Well, I didnt get a whole lot of help regarding choosing a college, researching and filling out applications. I paid the bills with money I didnt really have. In the end, im glad I did it all myself because I know Carnegie Mellon is accepting ME, and not how my parents or guidance counselor tried to dress me up. I feel more self-fulfulled this way. My mom didnt even see what I wrote on the application and essays. I think she'd shoot me if I told her.

All and all, i was myself, I didnt put down what I thought Carnegie Mellon wanted to hear, and none of the books i chose for me reading list were on any recommended reading list, or high school approved anything.
