I <3 Swarthmore!

Congrats Encomium! Awesome news

That's great. How did you hear?

thank you! it said official acceptances are scheduled to arrive on Monday, March 28--

(i got a fedex package)

oooh. that's exciting. Congratulations on the acceptance and the scholarship!

the scholarship isn't definite...I'm a finalist, interviews are the week of April 10th-12th...

Encomium, that is a great honor. My son knows 2 Philip Evans Scholars. They are extraordinary people. Wow, I am sooo impressed!!!!!

Encomium, they will take you to NYC, you stay at the Hilton in Times Square if you get in. That is part of their wooing (well, orientation) for Philip Evans Scholars....

One friend of my son got that because he started a nationwide ESL school for Chinese immigrants. Another one is a Indian (American Indian) and a well-known activist and a reputed artist already. She also has a degree in Film (at the age of 19)..wow!!

Really? I feel so weird...it's a great honor, i feel so undeserving.

Oh drop it, Encomium. I've seen your essays and read about your accomplishments. I do hope you get it and decide to go to Swarthmore. It will be a great honor to get it....the Evans Scholarship also involves summer internships.

thank you so much achat! swarthmore has really gone up on my list. if i win this scholarship i'll be something special at swarthmore, whereas if say i went to columbia or something like that, i'd be just another cog in the machine.

Wow EncomiumII that is so wonderful!!! Congratulations!!! You must be on cloud 9.

I am so excited/nervous at the same time, the interviews are in april wooo! i was just happy to get into swarthmore, but swarthmore AND this is quite an extra boost

Encomium, not to make you more nervous - this sort of reminds me of the Morehead scholarship at UNC. This is perhaps not as well-known as the Morehead but the intention is the same. They want leaders from many fields, athletics, extraordinary community service, activism etc.

I got it too!!! I would love to talk to the other finalist about it

Sure, I don't like to put my AIM or e-mail on here though...but for some reason I don't seem to be able to PM you. Can you enable that?

i wonder when the rejections will come...

Enco- are you from the Philly area? Because I thought I read somewhere that only people who live near Philly have a chance at scholarships at Swat, not sure though...

No, the Philip Evans is for everyone and is based on extraordinary achievement. The one you are referring to is a need-based thing for residents of the DelMarva peninsula.

Here is a website explaining the Philip Evans scholarship as well as current students and alumni.
