I Got In!!!!!

Hey guys, as a SCEA-accepted class of 08er, i just want to say that what you put down as "intended major" or whatever it actually says has little to no bearing on the decision... most Stanford students change majors AT LEAST once, and 20-25% of the class is completely undecided when they first go. They only use majors on the very very broadest scale.. i.e. making sure their entire class isn't doing biomedical engineering.

Thank God, because I think I was foolish enough to put down Econ.

eilsiertaeht, what did you major in? i'm not saying that you're wrong, but i'm saying that i have friends that have applied everywhere, and majors affected them a whole lot. two certain people, best friends, did everything together. they had 1560's and all these really awesome scores, yada yada. but when they applied to stnfd, one did biochem, one did environ engineering, and the environ got in while the biochem did not.

my guess would be that the essays and recs were the ticket the one who got in, not the major.

What were your stats?

No-one is declared till sophomore year. So technically i'm not majoring in anything. I put down drama and math as what I'm interested in (and now realize that there's no way in hell I'm doing math). Seriously, the only thing they use that for is so that when you go to the receptions Dean Mamlet (or whoever is replacing her) can say "25% of you think you're going into Human Biology. 10% of you think you are going into Mathematics. 20% of you want to study humanities". Note that the section is optional. If your friends are really that similar, they wouldn't have taken both of them, even if they'd both put down environmental engineering. Everyone at Stanford is special in their own way. That's one thing that makes it so awesome.

:)
just got home...still on cloud nine! woo!!! :)
okey doke...here goes...

4.0 uw GPA
1-3 (it changes) out of 200ish people
mid 1400 SAT's
high 700 SAT 2's
pretty good recs
some essays were good, but i thought my first one about my favorite EC really stunk!

i can't remember what i put down for a major, so it must have been undecided.

good luck everyone!!!

I'm not mad (I haven't even gotten my decision yet) and I wouldn't be mad even if I got rejected, but isn't this the kind of thread we agreed not to start? Kind of like that Columbia thread that was a major bummer to the deferred and rejected people? I'm just worried that some people might be made to feel worse in an already-tough situation. Just my thoughts.

my major was undeclared, for those who care

I think you decided that you could use other threads to express your happy or sad feelings, but that the other one would be official (so the rest of you don't have to read threads like this if you don't want to)
ok, so I've been lurking. :-P

grrr...grrr...grrr...

WOOT represent 09!
