Please don't be down.....things usually work out for the best and there IS the right college for you. ((((hugs))))

My D was rejected, not surprising, as she had good stats, but not near Ivy League level, which seems to be necessary for UNC OOS. Good luck to you all.

We arre SO excited as our D got in! We were so surprised to receive the packet in the mail yesterday as thought it would not be sent for a week or two. How wonderful to receive the news.

Did you guys get packets in the mail before the decisions were up online? Or were the decisions already up and you just didn't realize it?

Sharon D:
I live on Long Island, not North Carolina.

I applied to:
Duke (I know don't yell at me!)
Davidson
Vanderbilt
Loyola (accepted early action + presidential scholarship)
Richmond
Gettysburg
University of Georgia (accepted early action into honors program)
University of Delaware (accepted into honors program + scholarship)

I applied kind of last minute actually, probably in December.

Math most certainly isn't my forte (in fact it's the only not As on my transcript) but I'm taking calculus this year. (A step below AP Calc)

I've taken Spanish since 7th grade.

I think it was my ECs that helped me quite a bit.

And BigE21: I found out online on Friday and have not yet received anything in the mail, although the online letter said it'd be coming soon.

Duke????? Nah....just kidding. :) Actually I have always wondered why if that is a Baptist supported school why are they called "The DEMON Deacons"? Anyway....congrats and hope if you choose Carolina that it is everything you want it to be and remember one day you will have to graduate and work for a living so don't party toooo much. ha!

My d has taken a foreign language since 7th grade too. When she graduates she will have 2 years of Spanish and 2 years of French. Her EC are school cheerleading, all-star cheerleading, gymnastics, and next year she will add leadership and juniorettes to the list....they each do alot of community service work. This summer she will have her first job as she turned 16 back in Oct. and didn't want her to work during the school year. Her SAT score was 1700 but is taking it again in May and GPA is 3.5 weighted but should go up when she takes AP classes next year. Sound ok????

Duke was formerly Methodist (Blue Devils). Wake is Demon Deacons/Baptist. Both pretty curious names though...lol!

SharonD - my d did the school cheer/competitive cheer thing too! If your d gets in at Carolina, encourage her go out for crew...they love to put the little cheerleaders in the end of the boat as coxswains. And walkons are welcome. :)

She really needs to work on those stats. She should bring up her grades and her SAT score. This can be done with lots of studying, so don't think that there's anything inherent in her that's preventing her from getting high scores! But taking a look at the kids who were waitlisted (Most of them seemed to have very strong extracurriculars and GPAs), that SAT does count for something.

Cloying....thanks for your words of encouragement. We are telling her to strive for UNC and if it doesn't work out then she should hopefully be able to get into the other schools she's planning on applying to which are small to medium schools like Campbell, Wingate, Furman, NC State, Gardner Webb, Mars Hill. She is going to study for the SAT which she did not do in Jan. and so far this grading period which ends tomorrow she is making all A's. AF& M, honors history, creative writing and french II. Next year she will take at least 3 AP classes.

Ha.....will tell her about the opportunity for crew IF she gets into UNC although she is a base and is 5'5"....not too small....all legs! :)

Idmom06......so you know what I'm talking about! 2.50 minutes of sheer madness, hearts racing, screaming at the top of your lungs, running back to the car for the extra pair of bloomers cause someone forgot theirs, passing around the sports tape, bandages, and ice wraps, and this is just the parents! :)

same dude. im just glad i wasnt the first likely letter to ever be rejected cuz i was scared. im seriously considering it, but waiting on some big ones

Sharon - My d was a base and back for her competitive team and a front for school cheer. She was about 5'4", under 115 lbs when she was competing. Little heavier when she isn't tumbling regularly. But those lady rowers are pretty darned big....most over 5'9. So it's all relative....lol! The crew coaches like cheerleaders because they yell really loud...and are good at motivating the rowers. Of course, my d quit crew after one semester because they practice at 4 p.m. and she had labs most afternoons from 1 - 5 p.m. The coach suggested changing her classes/major, but that wasn't going to happen.

And I agree...competitive cheer was pure chaos...lol! I was a team mom every year, so in addition to making sure none of my wild teenagers didn't leave the venue to chase boys, I had to make sure the hair was flat-ironed, the bows were straight and the makeup adequately gaudy... ;) My d had to wear tumbling gloves because of chronic wrist injuries and she had one of the last diagonal passes.... and if those gloves were misplaced, which happened frequently, the entire parent contingency would go into crisis/search mode. And one year, a group of my girls decided to jump on the trolley to ride into Dallas from the convention center without permission....an hour before warmup. We thought they had been abducted. That was the year of the ice storm and no electricity at the hotel! And THAT was my LAST year volunteering....lol!

Oh yes...those were the days. :)

I just found out I got accepted!

Phew.. I was reading this thread and I got worried because I did not receive and e-mail at all whatsoever. But I went to check my page on the UNC website and I was accepted.

I'm so excited!

I think someone said Duke was methodist... I think it is still a Methodist school, but I really doubt that they do a lot of religious classes as requirements, etc.

wmalum - Duke has historical ties to the Methodist Church; but has always been nonsectarian.

wished i lived in state , waitlisted with 4.0 gpa, only 1370 on M+V though. Any thoughts on how many people get waitlisted? I know chances are low, just wondering if it's even worth it at this point.

damn i got rejected.....=(

wasn't expecting that

accepted :d

"A couple of questions.....do you all live in NC, when did you apply, are your stats posted, what was the highest level math course you took in hs, and did you have 3 or 4 years of foreign language? Thanks."

Ok, so my school stats are kind of strange because I go to a school where barely any classes aren't honors or higher but here are some really general stats:

Live in NC
Go to a Selective Public Boarding School with a close relationship to UNC system (North Carolina School of Science and Math)
Applied to UNC EA as well as Tulane and NC State
(Only because I get a tuition grant to UNC system schools)
SATS: Are actually pretty low... M 670 V 680 W 650 with a 10 on the essay
School doesn't do class standings since we're all the top of our class from our old school
GPA: 5.134w and I have no idea about unweighted because it is not provided
Highest math: AP Statistics ( I hate calculus!)
3 years of Spanish, 2 years of Japanese and 1 year of Esperanto
The rest of my stats aren't posted because I've never really bothered.
