If you're admitted now, you'll be notified within the next week or so; if you don't get a notification right away, it could mean any of a dozen things. Keep in mind that we're still behind on mail processing -- even if you're an EA applicant, if your high school sent your documentation in the last two or three weeks, it's possible -- even likely -- that it hasn't been processed yet, and that means you'll have no decision at all yet.

Hey congratulations to those who got in. I really enjoyed my time at Stony Brook. There are lots of academic opportunities, you just need to take advantage of them. Also seems like Stony Brook is getting nicer buildings and cooler things to do. Congrats to all you guys!

I have been reading this thread and have a similair question. My son applied EA and was deffered until Feb 15th, Reg decision, but the Solar has changed to say that He will receive an answer shortly and now there is that "Student" link that wasn't there before, so, once again, does that mean he got in? On the day we received the deferral letter the solar changed to what I just described with the new link that would allow us to pay tuition deposit and pick his preferances. This happened Monday 1/5. If he did get in when would the solar change to "Congratulation..."? So confusing.

Yeah.. it seemed strange to me because even though his SATS were not great (1170) he is 15th out of 305 in his class, 4.0, AP and Honors and in many clubs, so he was suprised to be deffered, but I do know SBU has alot of qualified applicants this year.

Zuljian Also perfect, or close to perfect grades don't mean auto entry into Stony Brook, or any college for that matter.

this was posted by Zuljian in another topic.

Just because your son has a 4.0 and AP/Honors, etc doesn't mean he wont get deferred. There might be people out there with a 3.0, AP Classes (not great though, low 80's in APs), and better SATs with a bunch of EC's who will be chosen over your son.

What Zuljian said is the truth, no matter how hard it is to hear it.

That's why you should be an all around good candidate not just strong in certain area's

I feel my son is an all around strong canidate, but I realize alot depends on the applicant pool. But really the post was more a question about receieving the deferral letter and then that same day the Solar changed and the "Student" link appeared which allows tuition downpayment, etc. I just was confused and wondered if this could mean he was accepted.

I believe Chris (sbuadmissions) said that if the link appears you are "unofficially" accepted. He also said that SOLAR takes time to change from: I think it was "Your app has been received. It will be reviewed and a decision will be made shortly, to Congratulations! and all that good stuff in order to give the Letter of acceptance/denial time to be sent out and received.
