I got in!

My neighbor just brought over my letter, apparently it was delivered to wrong house (LOL). Pleasantly surprised by the very generous scholarship offer. I am definitely going to have to consider the school as a valid option for next year.

Oh my, of all the pieces of mail to make a mistake on. Well, that’s a nice surprise, anyway. Which Scholarship did they offer, if you don’t mind my asking?

Distinguished Scholar ($22,000) and admission to honors college (which I know little about).

Congrats, that’s outstanding. The Honors Program (an Honors College is actually a different thing) essentially means a few things:

1) You are automatically tracked from the start to graduate with Latin Honors (summa cum laude or magna cum laude), although obviously you have to make the grades.

2) You have extra resources available to you with regard to advising, especially concerning getting various fellowships like Goldwaters, Rhodes, etc.

3) You have first choice to be in the honors courses, which will have the best students at Tulane in them and are usually more discussion oriented, but obviously expectations from the prof are higher also

4) You get first choice to be in the honors dorm, Butler, which is quieter than Monroe and Sharp, far more stereotypical freshman dorms. Just depends on what you want.

It’s not as big a differentiation as an Honors College at a state school, for example. That makes sense, since Tulane is already a highly selective school. But it does have some advantages that the many students find useful.

DD received her Honors Acceptance and Presidential Scholarship letter this weekend. She’s excited! Now need to get to work on the Full Tuition scholarship application! Anyone have any additional pointers for this app that haven’t already be posted?

Distinguished Scholar (22,000/yr)+ honors program!

Congrats to all!

S is accepted! Notified on Gibson…will see what the letter brings.

college4three- That’s great!! I know the waiting was hard, but now it will be an easier Thanksgiving, having this one in the “win” column. Good luck with the letter. I don’t know your son’s stats, but if he is truly competitive for Columbia, Chicago and schools like that, then he should get a nice offer from Tulane.

How long after you were admitted on Gibson did it take for your letter to arrive?

I found out on 10/26 and got my letter on 10/29… but I don’t know how long my appluaction was sitting at an accepted status before I saw it!

I GOT IN!!!

This is quite literally the most monumental occurrence in my life.

I had been logging into gibson every 5 minutes since I submitted my application (about 2 weeks ago), and about 15 minutes ago the “application status” field was blank. Previously it had said that my application was pending review. I was concerned about this, but I logged in AGAIN and I saw the good news

I’m hyperventilating a little.

SAT: 2180 (M 710 CR 730 W 740)
GPA: 3.0 UW (84.3/100)
Class rank: my school doesn’t rank

That’s great, Juliette! Congratulations. Good luck at Tulane!

Got in today! Just checked online and got a huge shock as I was walking home from school. I was literally singing down the street :)

Now to wait and see if I get any scholarships!

(thank you fallenchemist for taking the time to chance me earlier this week… You have no idea how much better you made me feel while I was waiting!)

Good luck everyone :D

Congrats to all that received Distinguished Scholar and Presidential Scholarship! Can I ask waht was your GPA and SAT or ACT?

My GPA is 4.65 (out of 4) - 18 Honors/AP classes
ACT is 32

Haven’t received my letter yet. Do you think I’ll get any money? I was admitted last week, but still no letter:(

How long did you wait for letter after acceptance on Gibson?

tribegirl,

Do we think you’ll get money? Is this an April fools joke?

It seems like the kids that received money have very high SAT scores. I did not send SATs, I did better on ACTs, so sent those scores. 32 is good, but not great.

any transfers get in yet???

tribegirl - 32 is pretty darn good! Yes, you will get an offer of merit money, I am nearly positive. You not only have a good ACT, but your GPA is strong with lots of AP’s. Hard to say which you will get though, my guess (pure guess) is $22K Distinguished Scholar.

Thank you fallenchemist, that would be great! ;)
