don’t go to tech - although you will develop great technical skills there, your social development will definitely slump. go to cal for a more well-rounded college experience.

I should receive my financial aid package this week; if I can shoulder the debt, I’ll definitely cast my lot with Caltech, but otherwise all roads lead to Cal. Thank you very much for your advice.

Last week Monday I toured Caltech and it seemed pretty obvious that the atmosphere was relatively less social; however, it has a small student body size, the students were friendly to a fault (I also was allowed into some dorm rooms), and like you accurately pointed out, “one will develop great technical skills.” These, coupled with the fact that chances of participating in research are probably the highest for an undergrad in this country, far outweigh any social gains an institution will/can provide. I also appreciate your thoughtful and helpful advice and I may very well end up in Cal if the potential financial strain seem unbearable.

Thanks Blessed_Child. Your thread gave me lots of inspirations. I was sort of stuck up in the middle too. Right now I can be calm and cool about my descision.

Actually Im looking about transfering over there to continue my engineering…Im doin a 3-2 program at Nebraska Wesleyan in Engineering and physics, but to get to your question about the cost of tuition and if it is worth the cost , well it is. Yes you have to pay around 114,000 per year just for tuition, and because Caltech is a Trimester School, where they go for three semesters rather than the usual dual semesters in a year like other universitys, as well as paying 38000 per. semester. But after living in Califorina and being enrolled in Caltech, you have the option to regester a as citizin of California, and with that regestration also comes free Tuition to any University and College in the California Border and one of your years at Caltech is completed.
