Hi guys, just wondering if anyone got into College of Biological Sciences! Just got my acceptance this morning. Super excited!
Congrats! When did you apply? We have not heard of any CBS admits yet, you are the first! I have DS who is waiting, but application issues were still being resolved by university as of Friday.
I submitted my application September 29th and exactly 2 weeks after I was admitted. Although I had an issue with my SRAR so I thought it was going to get pushed back but apparently not!
Congrats! We just found out on Saturday that my daughter got in as well! She applied Oct. 1st. Very exciting!
Congrats!
What were your stats?
I have a 29 act with a 4.12 weighted gpa and 3.83 unweighted. I will graduate with 8 AP classes and 9 Honors classes. If you want to know my ECs I can share those in another post.
I have similar stats (28 on the ACT though) but I haven’t heard anything yet. I applied in the end of August
@shultzie1117 odd that you haven’t heard anything yet! What was the second college you picked as a backup?
I have no idea
@shultzie1117 did you apply common app?
No.
@schultzie1117 oh alright odd. Well I’m sure you should hear a response soon. You can always call the university too and ask on your status.
@schultzie1117 Don’t worry, we are still waiting too.
@schultzie1117 are you in-state or OOS? It’s still pretty early in the admissions cycle. Not sure of your grades, course load or class rank, but your ACT is below the 25th percentile for admission to College of Bio. Sciences so your application may take a bit longer, barring some special secondary factor. If you didn’t specify a backup college you haven’t left them with much choice other than to admit you or defer, and they most likely won’t be deferring anyone till January.
Pretty hard to keep waiting for a rolling admissions response when one child got theirs in days. In the meantime, I pursued last year CBS deferred and waitlisted students and I am now really nervous for my son. So, do I believe our school’s scattergrams that say this should be fine, or the stats of a few MN ACT 34 above 3.5 not even getting in… I just want this Saturday to bring good news! BTW, plenty of exact stats kids that my son had didnt get a second choice option for CLA last year- deferred at the end of JAn from a Sept application, to be waitlisted in March.
@CAmom01 let’s hope Saturday brings us good news! To be honest, I am at the lower end for my ACT but at around top 10% of my class GPA wise. I was a little worried about being deferred and accepted to CLA (not that that is a bad thing) but I really was pushing for CBS. Our school’s scatter plot shows everyone near me has gotten accepted so that raised a little bit of hope. Although everyone has their doubts but I’m sure your son has done well and will get in! Keep us updated!
@CAmom01 what are your kiddo’s stats again (the one still waiting)? And he had some issues due to merged application with his sib, correct? Did that get resolved? Last year I recall some odd deferrals/waitlists for a couple of the colleges but we have no way of knowing the full story. Your school’s Naviance is more likely to give you the full picture. The 2018 admit rate for your school is probably indicative of what will happen this year - it that declined, then the stats probably did go up a bit. Where would your son be placed on that scattergram?
@JBStillFlying 31 ACT, (sadly 33.5 or 34 superscore but could never pull it together for one whole test!) and 3.59 GPA. Scattergram was all green well to the left and below, as well as totally green above and to the right. Yes, issues resolved (at least I hope there isn’t something we aren’t aware of). We had to resubmit the SR grades and send the letter of recommendation via email.
@CAmom01 your son has strong ACT and a good GPA. Do you have plans to send them maybe 2 ACT scores to show them his potential even though they do not suoerscore? I did that for two tests. Although 1 was for my writing score that I wanted them to see. But it could help his chances. But I don’t think it should be too much of an issue!
