I got into GSP today

Look. For all the kids who are reading this thread wondering if they should apply...go ahead! I had borderline stats, and got accepted...keep in mind the kids here on collegeconfidential have some sort of extraordinary interest in the best education possible, therefore high stats. Don't let people with 2300 SATS, 3.9 GPAs phase you

No. It ihnk u are getting these rankings from the Newsweek article. My school actually doesnt offer that many aps compared to other schools. I had competition from 3 other kids ed to CAS. 2 I was definitely better than. The last person had just moved from texas and I think has a mom who lives there. But yea, a lot of kids apply.

I really don't know then...

Just curious: What type of envelope did the GSP notifications come in? Big? Small? White? Purple? Stickers on the outside?

I applied to Gallatin, but my SATs were super-duper low (1190 on the old scale--eek). Everything else was really good though. But still I think my only chance at NYU would be GSP.

I live in Virginia, near Richmond. Wonder when I could expect a GSP letter?

I hope I at least get into GSP. NYU is my number one choice by far, even if it is GSP.

Ahh, just found other thread regarding the looks of the GSP notification letter. So nevermind, haha.

Did everyone here receive one of those Parents' News Financial Aid brochures? I don't know if they send it to everyone that applied or what...

British..what does the envelope look like?

parikhs,
here's the link to the thread about the looks of the GSP envelope; I believe firewalker posted it.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=122534

I also got accepted in GSP while being rejected from CaS. I actually at first took it as an insult, I would have rather been more happy if they bluntly accepted or rejected me rather than accepted me but making me take these busy work courses that isn't in my area of interest. I was really keen on majoring in Bio-Chem/Molecular Bio/Bioengineer(not sure if this exists) and looking forward to taking an array of Science and math courses. But now if I accept, I have to take these english and social studies classes that I always loathed in HS.
I applied Ed to NYU but I don't know if I will go because I am seriously thining of Medical School now and not getting into CaS is having me go towards my second choice which is Suny Binghamton. I haven't received anything from Binghamton but I'm wondering when would I have to notify/give deposit for this? I will most likely get a letter from Binghamton in early January. Think I have time to wait it out and see if I get accepted there? Also NYU is expensive and seeing how I didn't get into the area I wanted, I kind of lost my passion of attending for the moment. Anyway I think I'll wait it a bit and maybe ask my Guidance Counselor for her opinion.
[Edit]
My scores were: GPA 4.52 Weighted SAT: ~1900
4 Ap's this year, one last year (US History, got 3 on exam), I did 4 years of Spring/Winter Track, and 2 years of Cross Country. Volunteer work at local hospital ~90hrs and various clubs. I know what my recs were very good and my essay was very personal as that event i dicussed did change my life a bit. *Btw when if I submit Fafsa, when do I hear how much in grant/aid I can get, because that might also shift my decision.

Congrats tangents..I see what you mean...it sort of is a disappointment because now its like "..why am I dishing out all this money for.." - from what matth said, you have to leave a deposit by late december or 2-3 weeks after getting your letter...you should call admissions and see what they say to be sure.

Fifa did you do community service? If so, what did you do?

congrats you guys!!!! i'm applying RD so i have to wait a lot longer to find out if i get in lol .....but, still that's awesome for you guys that got in, GSP or CAS!!!!:):)

the courses you take fill the requirements you'd be taking in CAS anyway. Prose Comp = Writing the Essay. Cultural Foundations and Social Foundations = Con West. They're the equals to what you'd be required to take anyway. So don't make that be your excuse. And they're easier than the ones you'd be taking in CAS while just fulfilling your requirements. You're accepted. Shut up and be happy.

gl hogwarts...don't let the wait kill you :-P..i doubt it will though since its not your first choice right?

and I agree with allykat...1st two years you don't really take courses for your major neway right? Unless its like Stern, its different...so yah it really isn't that bad.

nope it is!! lol

AHH why didnt u apply ED man?

Here is what i think GSP really means:

"We want you at our University, but we do not want your SAT Scores or GPA on our CAS/Stern statistics this year............"

Still, I think I would take it....screw it, It's my 1st choice and I will still graduate with the major I want to graduate with.

But I think I had respectable SATs and GPA that are in their midranges. I am really considering calling up the admissions office and asking. I know I sound like a drama queen, I just hate the fact that I was denied admission to CAS when I was pretty qualified. And no, I didnt do any community service. But that still isnt any reason to deny anyone admission.

i had to retake my SATs....they're my weakness, but fortunately I improved on the Nov. test

same here, brought my score up 140pts ^^
