I got into GSP today

for those of you who are wondering about stern referring kids to gsp. in the past few years there have been about 20 to 25 kids every year being referred to gsp from stern; a large part of this group are athletes. this past year it seems stern has really tightened their policy as there are only 8 freshmen this year on the stern-track in gsp (two athletes including myself, so 6 non-athletes).

Is anyone going to the GSP information session on December 19th???

It's Tuesday - are more people getting GSP envelopes?

Trace, I do not believe that GSP is an option given to prospective transfer students. It is only for incoming freshmen.

hmm I came home...was hoping I'd see a big white envelope in the mailbox referring me to GSP from Stern...but the mail hasn't come yet and my chances of that are REALLY slim...:(

BigRed do you know what got those people referred to GSP from Stern by any chance? A clear business focus in mind? On the NYU Forums, the adcom guy said that the rare case of Sternies that get referred to GSP have a clear business focus in mind based on their app...so i wanna know if that holds true for the case of those that did get referred.

I didn't get a GSP letter today either. Someone else in Virginia got theirs yesterday, but nothing for me today. So I guess I can sort of assume I didn't get into GSP---especially if it doesn't come tomorrow.

Mail came and no GSP...a kid from my school got into GSP from CAS yesterday...his stats were 3.3 UW GPA, 1200 SAT's, and Philipino...idk if his sister attending the school now played a factor or not...but he's one lucky kid.

I talked to the admissions people yesterday. They say that you can transfer after your first gsp year to stern provided that they want you. Basically, as long as you have good grades.

yah you can APPLY to transfer but I bet its REALLY competitive

Woah.. Texas and NYC is EXTREMELY different O_O potential welcome to THE REAL WORLD!!

Is Texas not the real world, Chibi?

Parikhs...

Man you really seem obessesed with Stern.
LOL....JK

Anyway Good Job to all the people accepted. I was a little surprised to see fifa relegated to GSP. Your stats were good enough and I was extremely surprised, even after you applied ED. But its important to remember that when you apply ED, you have to go there, so they can in some ways manipulate you. Don't feel down on it. You can get out after two years and on the degree it will say NYU.

Also, I have always found NYU to be random. A kid from my school two years ago got in Stern with a 1220ish and a 3.7 GPA and also a kid with 1400 who got rejected. I personally think with 30000+ applicants, they have the luxury to really diversify themselves and have all different kinds of people. Everyone has the stats and GPA. Thats where I think your uniqueness comes in. Almost anyone can master the SAT now so they look for something more. Your best bet is to have something extra that sets you apart in your ECs.

I am also aplying to Stern, however RD. Good luck to all the rest of you.

good post livinitup...and I'm really not obsessed with Stern because if I don't get in I won't be devastated because its what I expect..but I would definitely enjoy going there and take the opportunity in a snatch...I've just been sorta anxious lately and posting on here lol. anyway gl to u too and i agree...its really random!

Lol. Okay, Texas is part of the real world, but I mean. A metropolis. Texas VS. NYC? nyc of course.

livinitup: You play on the national cricket team? Junior Division? I love cricket. How did you join the team and where do you guys practice? What did you get on the SAT's?

I was really suprised that I got in at all actually....I gave up early last week and started waiting for my rejection letter....

I have high SAT scores, but not all that high.

Math 600
Crit Reading 660
Writing 710

and get this....my GPA is a 3.44!

doesn't that just suck?
But Ii actually got in. Which is good because even though my grades aren't amazing, I worked really hard. Plus I'm president/editor of just about every organization within my school.....and I must say, my essay was pretty freaking great.

I don't even know what to do with myself. Im happy I got in, even though the GSP letter is a little misleading. And to think, I had a teacher that said I would never get into NYU simply because I'm graduating from Joppatowne High School.

I'm the happiest person in the world right now. Good luck to everyone else, and congrats to the ones who have recieved their letter.

Texas has three of the largest cities in the United States-- Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Not to mention many other large cities. There is crime, rape, murder. There is segregation, there are billion dollar corporations located here. There are skyscrapers only several blocks away from the "bad" parts of town--where drugs, homelessness and prostitution are all prevelant. There are many other things in Texas that are very similar to NYC...if this isn't the "real" world...I wouldn't want to know what the "real" world is actually like.

There are cricket leagues all over the USA now man. They actaully compete with international cricket temas like Australia, New Zealand and such. I have personally been to other countries for cricket tournaments.

check out

Btw...My sat is 1350 (720M and 630V)

Good Luck

got my GSP acceptance letter yesterday! :)
it's annoying not to be in CAS, but really, it's NYU, I'm just so happy to be going there!

do GSP have a lot of required courses?

http://www.nyu.edu/gsp/

I think that tells you everything you might want to know about GSP. It seems like a lot of people here on CC have been referred to GSP. It seems like a pretty good program, I would be happy to be going to NYU, too.
