I got into MIT and CMU....

I got into MIT and CMU....

To all the people who said I did not have a chance….I hope your dreams come true
hahaha

oh yeah SAT score :1760

AA can only take you so far at the top schools. He/she must have had something extraordinary as well. Coupled with his/her urm status, he had a good shot.

Case: my friend was rejected from Harvard with a 1310, 32 ACT, and amazing ecs. However, his amaizng ecs helped him get into princeton, stanford, and yale.

congrats phiandstuff. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and your tough selection between MIT and CMU

This is some kind of joke. OP's other posts showed very low math score. Why would MIT admit someone who wouldnt be competitive with rest of the class? Also he said another kid from his school got in and he had even lower SAT. Lower than 1760 for MIT ?

Final analysis: how is it that the other kid knew he "got in" and not OP ?

Stanford?! They regularly reject people with amazing scores and ECs.

You all need to stop focusing on who these schools reject and start focusing on who they accept. For example, people love to talk about how Stanford rejects people with 2300+s. This is true. But it accepts people with less than that (my cousin had only a 1290 on the old SAT and got into Stanford and MIT).

We really need to remember--chances are lower for lower stats, but people DO get accepted with stats below the 25%, or the 25% percentile would be the 0 percenitle. Stanford doesn't accept everyone with certain scores or certain ECs, nor do they reject people because they aren't perfectly able to handle the school. It's just very subjective, and there are very few spots, so with at least decent stats, anything can happen. There is no concrete formula.

haha yea man he did. He truly deserved it though as he had amazing character and was incredibly nice.

People, I hope you realize that admission is unpredictable. This is why "chance threads" are worthless.

In addition to my response, I agree completely with Murasaki.

DAAAAMN kid, congrats. you must have written one hell of an essay.

30% Acads
30% EC's
40% luck

Are you a minority? Good Job man...Good luck!

Congrats, phiandstuff--you must be so excited.

wat was the secret.....c'mon let us know...ur accepted now..

Tell all the ppl. so that they'll know SAT is not everything!!

it must have been his essay or his reco.........or he is hiding sth. from us!

Congrats. You deserve it, and I'm really glad that you didn't let others' catty comments get you down. hugs You rock.

phiandstuff got EXTREMELY lucky

hey congrats!!!

Nice pwnage, you give low scorers (like myself) new hopes :D
congradulations

Good job, dude. One has to wonder if you are a minority female, or someone with a super-special hook, though.

Congratulations on getting in, but trying to rub it in others faces is not the way to celebrate. (especially with hahahahaha - you wanted chances and they gave you what they thought were chances)

You were accepted because of your extremely high work ethic and a very unique situation that no one else can claim.

Once again congratulations, and I hope to see you in the fall.
