Well said jp91. Well meant.

Oh, crap. I think I misread BlackLantern's post. I guess I didn't get it the first time due to some bad phrasing and missing punctuation on his part.

My bad, Lantern, if my 2nd post was about something that you didn't say.

By you saying:

"applying to safeties = perfectly fine
saying UCI or other UCs or ANY OTHER COLLEGE IS THEIR SAFETY = perfectly fine as well
getting upset that other applicants are way more competitive and them just stating the fact that their safeties are your top choices = insecurity, jealousy, emotional problems"

Did you mean:

Applying to safeties = fine.

Saying that UCI/other colleges are your safety = fine.

Getting upset that other applicants are more competitive = fine.

Overqualified people saying that they got into UCI as a safety, for the sake of saying it = insecurity, jealousy, and emotional problems?

In that case, I agree with you. If that's not the case, I originally read your post as saying that we're insecure, jealous, and have emotional problems.

Please clear this up for me, Lantern. I will gladly give apologies as they are due. I think I may have royally screwed up. I'm less stressed now, after coming back from a walk.

Just because a few really egotistical people post on here that UCI is their safety and that they would never dream on going anywhere other than UCLA... it doesnt change the fact that UCI is still my first choice and the first choice for A LOT of applicants.

Get over it!

LOL internet tough guys....

seriously, life is always going to throw crap at you. deal with it. You can just focus on yourself or let what others say about you faze you. Also, JP91 you come off as pretty damn condescending too

You're right, I did come off as a condescending prick.. I regret that I handled myself so poorly under stress. I'm sorry.

JP91: Sorry buddy, but you're on the wrong website because UCI is a safety for everyone applying to UCLA and UCBerkeley. In fact you're on the wrong planet. If you don't get a sense of accomplishment that you got into college you should just burn in hell because the makers of CC and viewers need to know that these applicants applied as a safety to get ample feedback from the rest of posters. I foresee you getting rejected from college or if you do get in, rejected from a majority of the UCI student body. You obviously just do not understand the hard work many students go through in choosing a list of colleges.

Zairair, you're a bigot.

Hard work has nothing to do with indirectly putting others below you.

lets face the truth here. generally speaking, there is a good chance that when CC kids say UCI is their safety, it's almost a sure bet that UCI is indeed their safety considering that CC kids are in the top 1-10 percent of the country.

i dont think you know what gloating is
gloating - To feel or express great, often malicious, pleasure or self-satisfaction
dictionary.com
this is an example of gloating: AHAHHAH SUCKAS I GOT INTO UCI AND ITS MY SAFETY!!! YOU DIDNT EVEN GET ACCEPTED TO UCI!?!? UCI IS A JOKE AND YOU CALL IT YOUR TOP CHOICE!?!?! AHAHHAHAH.
i dont sense any malice when kids say uci is their safety. do you?
this is what ive seen most cc kids do who got accepted into UCI: I GOT IN! but uci is my safety so i probably wont go there.

i dont think people get pleasure/self-satisfaction when they UCI is their safety. i think that people are just stating the obvious.

pskate: You're a bigot.

Nowhere in this whole website has anyone put anyone below another, only colleges. I challenge you to find a recent thread where someone has. Seriously. (besides this one)

go to the Yale, Harvard and Penn forum
knock yourself out

I totally agree with you. 50 thumbs up deserved.

can someone seriously ban oop. hes racist
hes a dumbass. omg .

Well, although your argument does make sense, it isn't applicable to real life. Personally, UCI was my safety school and by no means do I wish to brag about that. To me, the practice of having safety school is just in case things happen, after all, it did turn out that I got rejected to MIT and Caltech. It's a common practice, and it makes complete sense to have safeties.

In addition, the admissions do account for people like me, so it isn't necc taking up additional slots. Theya ccept far more students than they expect to take in, knowing that people will not go.

I come from a HS where 1/2 (the Honor portion) of the school have UCI as their safety..while aiming for Harvard, yale, Duke and beyond. Most of us do get accepted to UCI, it is just one of those things you do to make sure you are going somewhere when all turns hell

wow.. the best post iv seen all year

I totally agree with jp91.

Many of friends who's first choice is UCSD were rejected and they weren't even willing to go to UCI. They rather go to Community college and transfer than go to UCI. And these spots could be easily taken by others who are willing to go to UCI.

Its fine and all if you have safeties, we all do. BUT if you're applying to school merely because you can get in, that is lame. If you're not even WILLING to go to your safety then DON'T APPLY. Simple as that.

^ yeah, i know a lot of people like that.
it's like.. a pride factor for them or something..

Amen. Everyone here has different standards, and I think that we all should respect each other on that. Nothing but positive comments please.
