My point is that I found the coach’s tirade towards the original girl who posted outrageous. Yes, maybe she wasn’t diplomatic but he hurled insults that really weren’t fair. Does anyone really think he had the right to be the spokesperson for the team and let the girl know that they are finished with her? And surely she does something besides complain and screw around and blow people off. Who is the grownup here? I am much more concerned about his behavior than hers.

The girl’s 400m sprint '09 high school track record is 52.42*. The fast freshman in the '09 season had a 54.21. Are you saying a 14 year old is only 2 seconds away from breaking the women’s world records, that’s been in place since the '80s? That’d be crazy.

I remember in Middle School I used to read the Daily Bruin (UCLA’s newspaper) a lot, and at the time they had a women’s 400m sprinter that was chasing the collegiate record (I think she ran the opening leg of the 4x400 for the US in the last Olympics). Her times were around 50 flat IIRC.

" I feel like you are leaving stuff out."

In my experience the above statement is exactly why so many truly abusive people get away with it for so long. No one who isn’t subject to their abuse can believe it’s as bad as the victim reports…

I would definitely talk with your principal and your guidance counselor/advisor. Hopefully the track coach is not on the school faculty or may be there for just this year. I would apologize to the coach but also apologize to the coach you actually told. Perhaps he will get the picture and work on your behalf.
If not I would suggest finding another team if possible. For instance in Northern Calif there are some private track clubs that some more serious runners belong to. I also have seen kids run for a team across town if they have an open policy. Also look into CYO track teams if they have them for the high school level.

or the victim could be lying/leaving stuff out in order to garner sympathy.

Uh, I definitely am not on here looking for cyber sympathy.

…I’m more looking for a suggested plan of action/solution. Because most of my friends are on the team and have nothing intellegent to say besides “well that sucks.”

And I am leaving something out… whatever it was I did that caused this. I don’t even knwo what that is, beause i dont screw off like my coach said.

So what happened next?

this was over half a year ago

Lol, you are beginning to replicate Maple’s actions.

On one hand, your comment about the other teammate was insensitive and probably was the last straw. Also, maybe you had specific directions/procedures to follow.

On the other hand, I think this is one of the problems with many high school sports teams in the United States; the culture in general tends to prioritize athletics far too much over academics. Especially since the sports team is actually a part of the public school system, the two conflict with each other far more than is necessary. I think TCBH summed it up well: “such a penalty is contrary to the mission and goals of the school as an educational facility”.

Of course, had this been in China or another country strong in academics, the coach would have probably been like, “Good, go study”. Or maybe track teams wouldn’t exist in the first place there because they care about academics so much (which is a good thing).

I didn’t know about this one.

So now we have:
- Mountain Dew thing
- Cherry Okah?
- Pie delivery on prom
- Ruined play
- and kicked off the track team

My tennis team coach tried to kick me off for missing the match against our main rival school to go to a state science competition. I basically presented the case to our principle, and crunched some numbers to show that we wouldn’t have taken first in state had I not been there. I won ^.^

If it makes you feel any better, this one guy on our bowling team got kicked off for spanking one of the female bowlers… When the coach was giving us one of his motivational speeches before a game

that’s the way it should be done

Terrible things seems to happen to ShampooSwallower. Unless it’s all fake?
