<p>I'm a junior in high school and have a d average in Honors Precalc. This is going to be my first D on a Quarter report card. I have failed 2 quizzes and a test. I didn't know ANYTHING on those quizzes and tests.
The reason why i dont know anything was because i was in Honors Geometry my sophomore year. I felt like an idiot for being in a class full of freshman and 5 people from my grade. So over the summer I had taken an online VHS Collaborative Alegbra II class. I passed that class with a 96. The problem is that all we really learned was rationalizing and factoring for those 8 weeks. The person in charge of VHS at my school(librarian) had lied to me and this other girl that did the same as me. She had told us that this course would be sufficient for learning all material i would learn in the class at my school. So i paid the $400 to take that course -_-.
I had a 3.76 unweighted GPA at the end of last year. Now for this quarter i have a 2.93.
What do i do?</p>
<p>Stop making excuses and go directly to your teacher to ask for help and possibly grovel for any sort of remedial work you can do to get yourself back on track.</p>
<p>I don’t understand why you haven’t, really; or at least, you didn’t mention it.</p>
<p>Yeah anything besides that?
I have asked her for help but get nothing in return.</p>
<p>Lul. Online classes suck. To learn math use khanacademy, [Precalculus</a> | Khan Academy](<a href=“http://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus]Precalculus”>Precalculus | Math | Khan Academy)</p>
<p>That D is on you. There’s nothing you can do except realize what you did wrong and make sure you don’t do it again.</p>
<p>This is your fault, and totally your fault. But here it is. Go into the second quarter with your head up and own that class with A’s in the final 3 quarters. And then just forget about it. a D for ONE QUARTER of ONE MATH CLASS isn’t going to affect you a whole lot.</p>
<p>GET THE HELL OVER IT and do better next semester. It happens to the best of us. Whatever you did last semester that caused your D stop doing it…common sense</p>
<p>haha…same problem dude. i got my first D+ ever too… -<em>-
except i’m in BC calc. so i’m probably going to switch down to AB.
honestly pre-calc is easier. so it is more manageable to improve without
switching down to a regular class. So what i’d do is PRACTICE PRACTICE.
also remember your unit circle. goodness. that comes in handy ></em><
also ask for help. you still have 3 quarters left. get AT LEAST a B+ or A- to
make up for this D. also colleges will only be looking at your FINAL grade in this class.
so don’t give up IMPROVEEEE
story of my life. i’m going to do the same. SIGH. I HATE MATH.</p>
<p>Hey (:
I have a hard time in math too so I know what it feels like to go into a math test not knowing how to do anything.
The best thing I can suggest is to ask students for help (maybe the way the teacher explains something just doesn’t do it for you, ask one of the smarter kids to help you with the hw one time).
Also, you don’t say anything about your study habits but I’m going to assume they’re not the greatest. Make sure that you actively pay attention in class and ask questions when you don’t understand!! It can be easy to doze off for a minute or two, and in math if you miss one thing it can mess up your whole understanding. Also try to get some extra practice–do problems in your textbook that you weren’t assigned, for example. Understanding math comes from practicing problems rather than reviewing notes–actual work is the best way to study.
Also–stop looking for excuses. I know it’s tempting and absolutely everyone (including me) does it to shift blame away from ourselves. But you won’t be able to improve yourself until you realize that it’s mostly your fault. (ok that sounded really harsh in text, but like I said I am terrible at math too so I know what this is like–just try new study methods instead of sticking with the old ones that are clearly not working and you should improve!)</p>
<p>I know it’s brought your GPA way down but it’s just for the quarter. Next quarter, scratch whatever study methods you’re using now–they’re obviously not working, so try something new. Do well next quarter and on the midterm and your semester grade will balance out. </p>
<p>Good luck!! (:</p>
