I Got My Likely (acceptance) Letter!

hey prncssnyansema, when did u turn your app in? just wondering, id liek to know how long their whole process takes

prncssnyansema, when is the letter dated? and congrats!

hmmm - is it a 99% guarantee you're really in if you got a likely? The letter says "if there is no negative change in your record"... by "negative change", would the adcom go as far as to rethink their decision if say, your final exam grades you send in are a little lower than the predicted ones the adcom based their decision on?

no, atleast i dont think so. that's coz when they decided to send you the likely, they based their decision on the strength of the work you have done over a period of years and hence, they voted to send the letter to that personality of yours that made you accomplish what you have accomplished over these years. a slight drop in final exam grades cant hurt your decision much. this slight drop in just one examination wont be enough to wipe out ur achievements in all those other exams you have taken over the years. but remember, yale doesn't have much of a sense of the 'person' behind you unless they already read your interview report before sending you the likely. so what can make the adcom think twice before admitting you even after sending you the letter is a bad interview report.

how long after you got the white confirmation postcard from yale did you guys get your likely letters?

its frustrating that i STILL havent received my likely letter...what do u think the problem is??? i blame the mailman :-</p>

i sent my app in like the middle of december and the letter is dated Jan 28th. I think I got my white postcard like in the beginning of january.

slicmlic- don't u think its alittle arrogant to assume you're going to recieve a likely letter? It's one of those things that is nice if u get it but u should never expect it because the chances of getting one are so low.Like Im totally suprised that I even got one so it makes the experience alot more sweet but if I were expecting it... I don't know, that sounds just plain overconfident to me. That's just my opinion...

(question answered)

prncssnyansema, I am pretty sure he was [at least somewhat] kidding. (Though he was so heavily recruited by Harvard he might be in the running, lol.)

But hey, where's mine?! ;)

hahahhahahaha, College Confidential- where fun goes to die

CHILLL OUT peeps....life is goooood :)

have u seen how beautiful the weather is outside??? i dunno...they just announced the Coahcella 2005 lineup, and NOTHING can bring me down

"good lookin' out, kebree ;)"

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

haha ok just had to make sure cuz I was like uhhhh what is going on? lol

cool well congrats on the harvard thing :)

whew thanks bruno - yeah I think the interview's really really important. My interviewer just emailed to congratulate me and he said that in his opinion I would contribute lots to Yale should I choose to matriculate. So that means the interview report has a great bearing on Yale's decision.

Good luck everyone! Hope all you guys on this board get great interview reports!=)

In response to an earlier post, I must say I'm surprised my letter was dated 10 Jan too. Are you sure Yale starts reading apps after that date? I have a hunch they start reading apps the moment they're complete - otherwise why do we see likely letters being mailed over staggered dates instead of in a single bulk?

Just out of curiosity, do other colleges get wind of the news when you get a likely letter? Will it affect decisions from other colleges like Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Stanford etc.?

i am not sure if other colleges get wind of the fact that you have been sent a likely letter. but even if they do come to know, it will be all the better for you as then they'll try and get you to matriculate as hard as possible coz they'll know that they are in competition with yale over you!

MIT Hopeful---yeah, I was told by a ridiculously reliable source that they had not started reading at that point...which is what makes me so skeptical about the whole process now. But that's just me.

what is this likely letter. and what does it mean.>>>

As I see it, it's a letter saying you're an invaluable asset to humanity who will go on to shape the face of academia for centuries to come.

erps, i think "invaluable asset to humanity" is an exaggeration=) It just means you've been accepted as long as no negative drastic circumstances happen, like cheating in an exam, committing a crime, failing an exam etc.
