Well I got accepted alright, only I have to start in Jan. 2009.

Honestly, it's kinda a letdown, but it's not that bad, I mean I still got in right? Most people (like the people that got rejected) would actually kill to be me. I think I'm actually going to choose UCLA since I got admitted into the Fall term. Anybody have anything to say to defend USC? I kinda do want to attend USC, and it has been my first choice, but I'm also very willing to go to UCLA as well.

I live in So Cal btw. The letter is dated March 27. My status is stil "The adcom is currently reviewing your application"

just a question.. i really don't get the notion of spring admit.. why is there a such admit and what about all the classes you'll be missing during fall?? : $

According to what USC states, I was admitted the Spring because they class of 2012 was "full" but they still wanted to admit me. So instead of starting regularly in August, I must start in January when somebody graduates. I could always make up the missed time in summer school, its not a problem.

However, i personally think that I was like they wanted to reject me, but they also wanted to accept me. So I think that USC still wanted me, but just barely.

I think USC used to use the spring admits as a way to fulfill their quota, so if not as many people planned to attend USC in the fall, USC would bump some spring admits up to fall. Nowadays, with USC's popularity increasing, I think they will be getting rid of this type of admission soon. There are ways to graduate on time as a spring admit, such as going to a community college this fall or going to summer school. If you are going to go to a community college, definitely talk to a USC counselor to see what courses will transfer (example: writing classes and GEs will not transfer, from what I've heard)

If you like USC significantly better than UCLA and don't see the finances as a big issue, then I would go with USC. I know many spring admits that fit in and did not have much of a problem adjusting. It will be more difficult to meet people at first, but it isn't impossible.

Congratulations! What do you think tipped the balance considering the fact that your SAT scores were lower than the mean?

My theory with Spring Admits is that USC uses them to massage their USN&WR/College Board numbers. They report the % accepted, yield, and average SAT only for the Fall Admits, and use Spring Admits for those they want to admit, but whose accomplishments are more qualitative than quantitative, so that they can admit these students, but not bring down their showcase Fall numbers.

I actually know of a couple of students who were admitted for spring, and then notified later that they could come in fall. It could happen, depending on the yield.

^ I have no idea of the stats. I just know of these particular students.
I think it would depend on the year, how many actually matriculate, and if there's space.

i am a spring admit for this current school year starting this past january. Honestly it seems much worse than it is, i dont think i know any other admit that regrets the decision.

USC doesn't waitlist, this was its replacement. I know this past 07-08 school year there were about 500 spring admits who accepted. In years before this past year a few people were offered spots for fall admission, that just depends on the year.

I'm not sure if they're continuing this program as so many of us came last year, but if anyone does fall into this boat, DO IT, it will be stressful annoying and the fall will seem to suck but honestly its not that bad and goes by quickly. More than worth it.

Also in the past spring admits could also get student season tickets for all the football games and even be eligible for the lottery for bowl games..

the last few years someone has created a facebook group to bring all the spring admits together.

i truly believe you'll be as happy as i and the rest of the spring admits this year are for waiting.
