I got my SSAT scores today....

I just got my SSAT scores in the email today. I was just wondering if this is resonable for the schools i'm applying to: Exeter, Andover, Deerfield

Verbal- 737 (91%)
Math- 797 (99%)
Reading- 728 (96%)

And I think I did pretty okay on the essay.

You did very well! That's a what, 95% overall? That's certainly well within their range.

Well actually, it was 98% but I got like 20 questions wrong and one omitted.

Either way, it's an excellent score. Congratulations.

If you are hoping to get higher than 98% on the SSAT, you're mad. Congradulations. When did you take the test?

i took it on nov.11 (veteran's day)

EuNixD, congrats on your SSAT. One less hurdle to your entrance to prep school

It's peculiar; a lot of people have said they've got their scores who took the test on 11 November, but I didn't. Was there something that you were supposed to ask for, or did they just send it?

Did you purchase the Web Service Bundle? I think this package includes email reporting of scores. If you did purchase this, you should contact them. Otherwise, I think you have to wait. You should have a password. Your scores may be posted on their website. Look through the FAQ section of the SSAT website.

EuNixD -- Congratulations on doing so well on the SSAT! Now you can focus on your applications. Another area to consider is whether or not there are additional schools that might be a good fit for you.

Great job!If its not too much of a burden do you mind telling me how much you missed on math and verbal? I took the test the same day you did and I'm not so confident. Thank you!

Great score! Congratulations. I find it interesting that 20 wrong can still get you a 98%. They deduct .25 for each wrong answer ... so you really only got 5 wrong. The key to your success was that you didn't omit answers and had a pretty good idea how to answer every vocab word or math problem.

How long did you study for the exam? Did you have any special prep or tutoring? My D just did the practice exam. Scored around an 84 and actually got fewer wrong than you .. but she omitted 10 answers. That seems to be the decisive factor in scoring high ... not skipping questions.

I omitted one vocab question and got 11 wrong XD
I got four wrong on reading and 1 wrong on math

BTW the 98% meant I was in the 98 percentile of my grade and gender not that I scored 98% right.

Edit: I bought books and had no paid prepping. I did spend 2-3 hours doing the practice tests and books everyday.

You spent 2-3 hours doing test-prep every day? Wow....that's a lot!

for SPS, Exeter or Andover, you need to be in 95% minimum in all parts, unless you bring a hook

That's probably true in reality, but officially, Andover has no cutoff. This includes those students who have hooks, but their average is 94th percentile.

I don't think I did get the Web Bundle package. That's probably why. Oh, well, I'll wait. It's not that long, anyway.

woah seriously? I'm in trouble then...

PS what's a 'hook'?

Verbal- 91% <----the verbal part was REALLY hard....
Reading-96% <----is this considered barely passing?

A hook is a special talent that makes you particularly attractive to a school (i.e. being highly skilled in atheletics or music, being an exceptional and accomplished writer, et cetera).

Your scores are not "bad" at all. What were your quantatative and overall scores? That is one of the unfortunate things about when things get so highly competitive; someone who scores higher than 95%--the vast majority--of children thinks that their scores are inadequate. The scores are sort of common factor for all applicants. If you score in the general range, then what really matters is the rest of the application. An excellent score certainly can give you a good start, but it is not the only or perhaps even the key factor to getting admitted.

If those minimums are true, that is something. Someone who scores 95% or higher on each section would get at least 97-98% overall, and many people who get a high score overall have one section score that is considerably lower, so they would not meet the minimum on each section. I am glad our s is looking at other schools.

I have also heard that at the higher end boys have to get higher point scores than s on all sections to get the same percentage ranking.

did anyone get into exeter, andover, or deerfield with scores lower than 95 in each section.

PrettyKitty: My overall was 98%
