i got priority waitlisted

excuse me for asking, but if i accept the priority waitlist, and am accepted by the school, am i obliged to attend the school? also, do we find out the decision online? i figure taht's the only way to submit hte deposit by the 6th.

if i decide carnegie mellon isnt right for me, do i have to pay for hte 500$ deposit, if i get accepted?

thanks

oh and i got waitlisted for hte mellon collge of science, but does it hurt to include int he response letter that i am interested in tepper as well?

thanks again

Read the letter carefully. I have no experience with waitlistees so I do not know if PWL is binding. If it is, it means you have to attend if they take you off the waitlist. If you have to attend then that means you have to pay the 500 deposit. If you are rejected then no, you won't have the pay the deposit.

Question: Did you apply to Tepper? If not, what is the point of saying you are interested in it? Also if the MCS waitlist is not a priority waitlist then you might like it better because it might not be binding.

Just what does the letter say? Direct quotes, Please.

This is interesting. Here is the end of form they gave me to send back:

It looks like in addition to the priority waitlist option (I have MCS and CIT), you can also be considered again for another school.

it really is worded unclearly, which is why i posted on here.

"the priority waiting list option is only for those students who have now decided that Carnegie melon is their first choice and, if space becomes available and they are admitted, will enroll."

it says this in bold, but does not mention anything about being binded to the school, not directly anyways. the reason i hesitate is that i'm still waiting for some canadian schools to get back to me. I figure that I'll pay 500$, get myself into the PWL, and hope that I get accepted into MCS; i'll also check off that I'll like to be considered for tepper, which is an option that I believe CMU offers without any cost to me (which makes me wonder why one wouldn't check this option).

"as you think about these waiting list options, you may also want to be considered for admission to one of our other colleges..... If you would like to be considered for admission to another college, indicate that on the enclosed waiting list form and return it to the Office of Admission."

THis is of course, assuming that accepting PWL is not binding... anybody have any more details? I have to submit my form by April 14 (let's hope hte office handles my letter efficiently). I should be hearing back from the Canaidan schools before May 6, which is when I am due to pay for my deposit if i am accepted. Let's say I decide to go to toronto instead: can i not pay the 500$ deposit?

thanks

and on the little slip of paper we're supposed to mail in to CMU, the option i'm supposed to check off is "please keep my name on the MCS PWL. CMU is my first choice and I will enroll if accepted and post a non-refudnable 500$ enrollemnt deposit" <--- how legally binding is this?

usually, it's lgeally binding unless you don't have the money to pay and can prove that. Otherwise, if you skip a binding agreement, CMU sends all the other colleges you applied to a letter saying you have been a very mean person, and the other colleges rescind your applications.

That's what I heard, at least
