I got recognition, now what?

Hi everyone!
I recently found out I got recognition for the national merit scholarship in Nevada. My question is, what now? Do I just wait until Fall when they send out commended/semi-finalist letters? Also if i'm recognized does that mean I'm guaranteed at least commended status? thanks!

BTW: I got a 204 on the PSAT (not great), what are my chances of making the cutoff for semi-finalist? I'm in Nevada

Yes you’ll reach commended status but looking at the past scores for NV, chances for semi-finalist are slim

Class of 2014
Commended: 203 Nevada 212

Class of 2013
Commended 200 Nevada 208

Class of 2012
Commended 202 Nevada 209

Class of 2011
Commended 201 Nevada 208

Class of 2010
Commended 201 Nevada 202

I’m predicting the Class of 2015 Nevada semi-finalist cutoff to be 210-211

Is commended status still a good thing to put on college apps?

VegasLiving…Depending on which types of schools you’re applying to, I’d say Yes. Commended status means you’ve scored in the top 50,000 out of 1.5 million juniors who took the test last fall (top 3.3%).

If you’re applying to “elite” or “selective” schools it probably won’t do much of anything for your application, but it certainly couldn’t hurt to put it on there. It’s something that 96.7% of your peers can’t say…so go for it!!

Only in CC’s little bubble world will you find people who don’t appreciate your achievement. Congrats!!

Thanks! Does putting commended help with applications to universities such as ucla?

hey, in my opinion, putting commended status does not help on college app. won’t hurt. more of a neutral if anything. Your SAT or ACT score will be far more interesting to colleges you apply to than whether you made commended status. And the good news is your projected SAT is around or over 2000 which will get lots of schools’ attention. not sure about UCLA though as they are very competitive on admissions. Good luck!
