I got rejected from nhs

I need help because i just got rejected from NHS and its been on my head for awhile how this is going to affect my chances of getting to UNC Chapel hill. Im not sure why i got rejected from NHS. im currently ranked 12 in a class of 400. i think i got rejected from nhs because i got into a bad misunderstanding with one of my teachers. One of my friends stole a test from my teacher and the next day he was showing a lot of kids the test. he tried to show me the test while he was showing everyone else, but i told him i didnt want to see after i saw he had the test. Well my teacher seem to have gotten my name as one of the kids who saw the test. i talked to her after class and told her that it was a big misunderstanding and she believed me. i didnt get any points off my test and no detention or any displinary action. But i think this might be why i got rejected from nhs. i was wondering if anyone knows if colleges can find out why i got rejected from nhs and if not getting into nhs will hurt my chances of getting into UNC. I repeat i didnt get any disciplinary action. im prtty well round student. im captain of the tennis team and im in three clubs currently and every year in highschool ive gone to india to volunteer in an orphanage to help teach them englis because i love spending time with those kids who i still keep intouch with. plz some one tell me if this will affect me and whether carolina will find out why i didnt get into nhs

It’s not going to hurt you.

Could you tell me if colleges will know why i got rejected from nhs because i think its because of the cheating misunderstanding

not a big deal and no, they will not have information about the incident or even ask why you aren’t in NHS. Focus on joining some other clubs that interest you more (Honors language, Model UN, etc). Find at least 30 hours of community service year on your own which is what NHS usually requires to stay in. Good luck and no worries. Not everyone is in NHS.

thx for the help and ive already done 200 hours of volunteering in the orpahnage through out highschool.

Yea people randomly don’t get in at my school who have good GPAs, ECs,etc…
Then others get in with the minimum GPA. It’s just politics.

NHS isn’t a big deal at all. You should be good.

yea i dont think is a politics issue but i really appreciate the help cuz this has been eating at my brain cuz the only school ive dreamed of going to since a little kid is chapelhill and just curious do ap exam scores have any impact on getting into college. i heard they dont but im not sure

it doesn’t even look that good they see your stats and see that you’re good enough, they know most nhs clubs don’t do anything

yah but the thing is dont colleges wonder why is someone ranked 12 not in nhs.

It doesn’t matter at all-NHS is kind of a pointless EC to begin with. Its one of those things that adcoms are really indifferent about. They won’t even notice its missing, to be honest.

NHS really doesn’t matter. They won’t even notice that you’re not in it

There are a lot of old threads expressing similar concerns.

Bottom line: Getting into NHS most likely won’t help you substantially, and not getting in won’t hurt you at all. Unless you become President of your school’s NHS or organize some big fundraiser, its probably not going to be important.

At my school and others, NHS is a joke. We have 50 or so out of ~320 kids per class get in each year. They go to meetings maybe once a month if that and then get to pad their resumes with it.

I didn’t get in because I lacked some community service, but next year I will. Regardless, I’m not going to be a very active member, because it seems to be a phony club that I’m not really interested in.

i really appreciate all the help

Don’t worry about it! I was literally almost in the same exact situation too. One of the teachers on the committee seriously just hated me and my friend, and we were the only two to get rejected who should have gotten accepted over the partiers, and it was super embarrassing for me, b/c I was ranked 2nd/3rd out of 650 so everyone, even the teachers were shocked. And you know what, I still go to a top 25 school and got into several others. Everybody does/has NHS and requirements vary so widely from school to school to get in, that colleges don’t care.

hey i have a question about my volunteering hours at the orphanage. im goin again this summer and ill probably do another 50 to 80 hours which would bring my total hours to like 250. should i put a certificate with my application to verify my hours in case the colleges think its a bit far fetched to do 250 hours of volunteering at an orphanage in india
