I know its all late and stuff but I'm hearing all these people that got into uci and I'm here like my stats i thought were ok enough to get me in. This is so depressing!!

GPA-3.96 w
SAT- 1560 (low i know)
good essays
4 AP's
mediocre ec. president and founder of the MESA(engineering club sponsored by CSULB)

major: computer science

people with lower stats then mine got it. then why not me?

Your SAT’s and your spelling?
then: has to do with time; its an adverb: then we went to the store. if/then statements: if we go to the store now, then we’ll have more time to watch the movie later.

Than is usually used to compare: better than, more than,
It’s usually used as a conjunction.

omg yeah I know -_- typed accidentally.

My friend has the same stats as me and got in biological sciences. is it impacted?

At almost every school that takes major into account it’s harder to get into CS/Engi than the other majors. If the AP’s you took weren’t the easy ones and if your other classes were of decent rigor, your SAT score definitely ruined your chances. And if all you did for EC’s was make a club, that doesn’t look too good either.

You said that your stats are good enough, but I’m pretty sure UCI’s average SAT is considerably higher than 1500.

Bio sci isn’t impacted…I’m not too sure if ICS is, but with a 1560 SAT, you can’t really expect that you will get in. You potentially had a shot, but it shouldn’t really be a surprise if you didn’t get in. Sorry!

but what i don’t get is my friend got in with the same exact stats

It’s not all about stats.

It’s always been a given that UC’s don’t take in ONLY the good students. I know plenty of people who did FAR better than you (not meaning to bash) and didn’t even get waitlisted, just a flat rejection. These friends of mine were going up against people with stats like <3.6 gpa, <1800 SAT, no APs, etc.

Like oceanpartier said, it isn’t all about stats… stop fooling yourself into thinking that.

I tell myself UCs are some VERY unpredictable schools and that’s how you should see them. You can compare your stats to your friends’ but the fact is that s/he was accepted and you weren’t. There could have even been a situation where his paper was mistakenly put into the “HIGHLY RECOMMENDED APPLICANTS” stack and yours was put into the “IGNORE” stack. That being said, that’s the UC charm…

^with the exception of UCSD which uses a scoring system.

They don’t do that anymore.

O really? damn I’m old! lol

4.4 gpa
2100 SAT
10+ AP classes
200 hours community service

Got rejected. It ain’t all about stats.

@g3tb0mbed: you got into other uc’s though right?
