I did - the office is telling me to contact my admissions counselor, which I did by email. He’s basically said “D = absolute rescind”. I don’t believe him because if I did, there would be a hell of a lot less students at UCR.
So pretty much I can’t get any more info out of my admissions counselor, which is why I came here to see if anyone experienced this same situation of a counselor dealing with absolutes.
@hiddendragon11 so basically he said that we’re kicked out unless we can make up the deficient grade? How do we make up that deficient grade in a month? It’s not even logical.
@loubear5, it seems so unfortunately. Only case from here is that he’s wrong and the final decision is made by someone else, or appealing that rescind. If you PM me, I’ll email you if I ever receive any new important info since we’re pretty much in the same boat.
@hiddendragon11 I’m in the same exact situation as you. I notified UC’s about my D grade first semester before admissions were rolling out. I was told that the ‘D’ grade I received will be told to all UC’s I applied to. After I got accepted, I thought I was safe since they already knew I received a D but still accepted me. But I emailed my councilor less than a day ago and was told otherwise. I was basically told that my admission we be “rescinded”. Makes no sense to me in my opinion. Why accept me when you’re going to reject me for something you already know about.
Hey guys I’m in the same boat and my counselor told me that I will likely get rescinded for my last semester grades. I’m going a lot better this semester. I can’t make up the grade by graduation
@pandalambo and @ImpeccableShrek, did you hear this from the counselor Mr. Lopez? For some reason I and others have been told the exact same thing by him, and I hope that this is just a genericresponse, vague and not a guarantee.
@hiddendragon11 I’ve heard from other students that their counselors told them that their D’s won’t matter if all the requirements are fulfilled. It seems to me that lopez is the only person giving out automatic denials.
“Thank you for letting us know about this situation. If you receive an “F” in AP Calculus BC we will most likely waive the poor grade as you already completed the math requirement(A-G). Try your best to do well in the class but if you receive an “F” email me back to let me know. We will want to make sure that the rest of your courses ended up being a “C” or better for us to waive the course. Best of luck!”
Emailed them last year when I was in a similar situation(ended up getting a B), but this is the response I got. Dunno why your guy is being a dick.
Try and send another email and hope you get another person who is kinder. Explaining that you had already completed the A-G math requirement and therefore AP calc is just an elective may help, since the guy you’re speaking to obviously doesn’t know that.
@hiddendragon11 Yup. He told me straighr up if I have a D or F (any) I will get rescinded
@Onikage34 Just for clarification, was your school UC Riverside?
Did your first semester GPA drop below 3.0?
@4kidsdad, Nope. He doesn’t have my full transcript either, so it couldn’t have been a calculation error.
@ImpeccableShrek, @pandalambo, and @loubear5, Since we all have the same counselor and he’s telling us all the same things, I’m willing to place my bets that he’s just giving us a general and stern response to prevent us from slacking off. I’m still doubting that UCR will rescind everybody with D’s, but stay on top of this - if worst comes to worst we can still appeal the rescission.
@AlejandroS16 No, but the policy for all UCs should be the same(excluding UCLA/UCB). Received essentially the same response from all schools I had emailed (UCSD, UCSB, UCD, etc) saying that it was fine.
This is super scary! Best wishes your way
I received a nearly identical email, and it appears that I have the same counselor as well. Honestly, I was relieved to see this, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that communication with the counselor has only led to more uncertainty. I really feel like this is a scare tactic, because we’re all getting the same generic email and I got it on the same day. Fingers crossed that everything works out. Best of luck to you guys as well!
Someone please reply as soon as possible! Does anyone know if a “B” grade in AP Statistics will override an “F” second semester? Thank you! All for UCR of course.
I got the exact same email, but not from Lopez. It seems that this is the generic response that all counselors give out, since it seems they get these emails often from students.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that at the end of the email, the counselor recommended me to apply for UC Merced instead.
Wow I can’t believe she recommended UC Merced like that, is she even allowed to do that? I was able to take APEX online and finish Calc AB first semester, so my D got overwritten.
for the two semesters of senior year you can not have a d or f in any a-g classes.
overriding doesn’t apply here.
if you have a D or F and don’t make it up before graduation date you will be rescinded
@pleaseacceptme99 By overriding I meant making the class up, my mistake. The transcript deadline for my district is nearly up so I’m hoping the changes will reflect soon enough.
