I got waitlisted by Wesleyan, and I am happy.

I just recently got the axe from Trinity College, so I pretty much assumed I wouldn't have a shot at Wesleyan. Well I just got my letter, and I was waitlisted!

Now I just have some convincing to do.

me too. i thought i was going to get rejected.

Go for it! Good luck. Still waiting.

i know. i just got rejected from brown and northwestern and so i was expecting the same from wesleyan, so it's just nice to be waitlisted.

I know we're sort of competing now, but what do you guys think is the best thing to do in this situation. I think I will go visit the campus soon, and maybe make an appointment with the department head of my major. Anything else you think?

Not really much to do except write a letter and do well in school, like they said. I'm really hoping they aren't going to check up on our 4th quarter grades. Do you really think they'll be "closely monitoring your academic performance"? Man, this is a real pain in the ass--Wes was my first choice. I'm an alumni kid, too.

Me too! I got waitlisted at Trinity and accepted to Colby, and I was pretty shocked to recieve a thin but not too thin envelope from Wesleyan. I'm planning a visit too but I don't know who to meet with...I have no connections of any sort there. Sigh.

Keep in mind this year Wesleyan offered approx. 1900 applicants admission from an applicant pool of 7,200 +. The freshman class will be about 720 students. This resulted in an overall acceptance rate of 26%. I think the # of applicants is the most ever.

Approx. 300 students filled freshmen seats already as they were accepted ED1/ED2 which leaves only 420 seats open to fill from the accepted regular decision pool.

Guidance:

Write a letter to admissions and show continued interest. Stay in touch.

Do as well as you can 3rd/4th quarter.

Look hard at your second and third choices for college.

Do you think writing a letter as soon as possible would make any difference? Would it show how interested I am? My only problem is, I still haven't visited Wesleyan overnight--I was going to wait until I was accepted, and I didn't apply early because I wanted to visit overnight to make absolutely sure I wanted to go. Well, now I'm almost absolutely sure, but I want to have a very convincing letter, which might be made stronger by my visit and examples from it. In their letter they said that they will offer some students admission right after May 1st when they get responses from accepted students--I'm guessing this means they read the letters during April and decide who they want then?

Hey, it can't hurt, right?
