I Got Waitlisted..

Out of pure curiosity, would those of you waitlisted mind answering a few questions?

1.) Did you visit the campus officially where you had to sign in at the Admissions Office?

2.) What is your HS GPA and class rank?

3.) How many AP classes did you take?

4.) What was your score in each section of the SAT?

5.) Anything you think you should have done differently?

I got accepted with these:

1) I visited once for a tour/info session.
2) GPA: 95.5% Rank: 21/547
3) Only took AP calc, and AP calc II. Not many offered at my HS, so I took mostly honors other classes.
4) V: 580 M: 670 W: 600
5) With little to no help with filling out my application, I think I did pretty good. I didn’t lie anywhere or really embellish anything at all. I had a great rec from my math teacher and from my employer who is an alumn and is still in contact with people at lehigh (maybe a semi-hook?)

I’m just wondering if there was anything specific that may have made you waitlistees under/over-qualified. My friend got waitlisted with similar stats to mine, except he has a higher GPA, higher rank, and higher SAT score; but, he never visited the campus. (We only live ~30 mins away)

ar31791 I was also waitlisted and my stats would be like your friend’s (but I did visit and signed in). What is your intended major? There were quite a few excellent candidates from my school who applied (all probably within the top 15% or close to it) who also got waitlisted.

HazelEyez, I will be an engineering major. Computer engineering, specifically.

It seems like they waitlisted a ton of seemingly ‘over-qualified’ candidates. It will be interesting to see what they do. The most important thing to do is just to keep showing interest. Write them a letter expressing your interest and that you will attend if you are accepted. Email them updates of awards or any changes. Good luck! I hope you get in if Lehigh is still your top choice.

Are you requesting financial aid? These days that can particularly make a difference. At many schools, aid is low for wait list kids anyways.

cptofthehouse, for in-country students, Lehigh admissions does not take into account financial need. Many who have VERY low EFCs got accepted and are recieving LARGE grants from Lehigh. Lehigh is very good with Fin. Aid.
Also, low aid for waitlist students does make sense, as much of the money allocated for grants has been apportioned.

My friend emailed me the link to another thread that had a newspaper article detailing how more and more colleges are accepting students who can afford the full (or close to it) cost so they don’t have to give out so much aid. Personally I think it’s just the luck of the draw for some reason or another they decided to waitlist us.

HazelEyez, it just seems very weird to me, but his is what I have heard about Lehigh. No one really understands fully their admissions process…

According to one of my dad’s colleagues Lehigh is well known for waitlisting lots of people and for making sure the athletes are taken care of (don’t quote me on any of this but that was the colleague’s experience a few years ago). I have already decided upon another school and I’m afraid that even if I were to get accepted to Lehigh there’s no way they would match this school financially. It’s just frustrating for me (and I know for lots of other people) to be waitlisted at a school where they were solid candidates. I was at least hoping Lehigh would be a final contender for me.

1.) Did you visit the campus officially where you had to sign in at the Admissions Office? YES

2.) What is your HS GPA and class rank? 3.8 26/467

3.) How many AP classes did you take? 7 APS AND 1 CP (A COURSE BASED ON AP DIFFICULTY BUT THERE IS NO AP EXAM)

4.) What was your score in each section of the SAT? 720 MATH 570 READING 610 WRITING

5.) Anything you think you should have done differently? NOT A CLUE!

edit: I AM ALSO A MINORITY
